REVIEW - Last Light by Claire Kent

The Book
Release Date: 13 November
Goodreads Link

It only took four years for the world to fall apart.

Now the last member of my family has died, and I'm forced to travel across what's left of three states to find the only people I know left alive. To survive, I'll have to salvage food and supplies and try to avoid violent men who've learned they can take what they want by force. The only way I'm going to make it is by trusting Travis.

Travis used to fix my car, and now he's all I have left in the world. He's gruff and stoic and unfriendly, and I don't really know or like him. But he's all I have left. He'll keep me safe. We'll take care of each other. Until we reach what's left of our town and can finally let go of one another.

Last Light is a standalone post-apocalyptic romance set in the near future after a global catastrophe.

This is a brilliant post apocalypse book with all the feels and a happy ending.

Layne is moving on from her old town after her grandmother finally dies, it has been four years since the large asteroid hit Europe and the world is still suffering from the impact.  It is shortly after leaving that
travis comes across her and things change for the both of them.

Travis is a lot older than Layne and only stayed in the same town to be with his dying daughter.  After her passing he too decides it is time to move onto Fort Knox and the rest of the town.

The pair help each other in ways that they need without realising and form a bond of the strongest kind.  However both are guarding their hearts from the other, not knowing yet what the other wants and too scared to ask.

The chemistry between them is hot and sweet at the same time, Travis is always very careful and gives Layne just what she needs.  Both are very good at looking after each other where needed.

I really enjoyed this story and although it is not long certainly packs a punch.

REVIEW - A Wedded Arrangement (Convenient Marriages #3) by Noelle Adams

The Book
Release Date: 23 October 2019

With three months remaining of her marriage of convenience, Savannah is ready to say goodbye to her spoiled rich boy of a husband. He's annoying and argumentative and used to always getting his way. Sure, he's hot. And maybe occasionally a little bit sweet. But she doesn't want to stay married to him.

Not at all.

He needed a wife for a year so he could inherit his grandmother's fortune, and she needed to pay off her family's debts. That's all their marriage has ever been about.

So she really needs to stop falling into bed with him.

My Review  4 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is slightly different towards the normal book in the trope.  Whereas normally the couple are just meeting and arranging a marriage of convenience and fall in love, this pair are already in a marriage of convenience and only have three months left in their contract.

Savannah has always been on the poorer side of the tracks in Green Valley and Lance has always been on the other side.  Savannah does not spend money without thinking and has built up many walls with those around her so she is not hurt by the rich folk.

Lance has always grown up with a silver spoon and although he is at odds with his family also finds he has built up walls towards his nasty father and bigger sister.  He has always liked Savannah and its only on a trip away with Savannah to a family wedding that things change between them.

Although both have walls and both run away at times, they are adult enough to talk things through and settle things like adults and eventually see where they are going wrong and Lance makes a concerted effort to be a better man and a man that he feels is worthy of Savannah.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.

Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.
Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.
But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.
So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?
It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.

Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.

This book has everything that i wanted, suspense, romance, good friends, chemistry and so much more.

Eric Bayer thought he was just going to have Taco's with his father and brother and it turns into so much more.  He not only gets roped into helping an old friend as a fake boyfriend/bodyguard, but he reconnects with Alex and ends up having a much better time than he thought he would have.

The suspense with who is behind the incidents against Alex and her company is great and i never saw the twist coming.  I loved the connection between the two and Eric certainly had some good friends behind him and had a big turnaround in how he saw life after being with Alex.

I certainly recommend this book to all Sarina Bowen fans, i believe that this book is a spinoff of a spinoff series, so we have seen a little of Alex and Eric before, but it is wonderful to get their story.

REVIEW - Venom (Sinister Fairy Tales) by Dee Garcia

The Book
Release Date: 15 October 2019

-Tinks-
From the moment I befriended him, I set a conspiracy in motion.
A revolution.
Kill Peter Pan.
And I was their ultimate weapon.
I was also none the wiser, falling hopelessly and irrevocably in love with him as the years went by.
Just as they hoped I would.
But their plan comes to a screeching halt when Peter vanishes into thin air, something I’ll learn has nothing to do with Rosewood at all.
You see, Peter never truly loved me...because he loved a wench instead.
He lied to me, he used me, he left me, and he broke me.
Forever altering me in ways that incite revenge when Hook sweeps in with revelations and the ultimate truth.
Peter may have turned his back on me, but in the end, he and his precious little Wendy will choke on every last tear I once shed.
And I’ll have Hook to thank for that.

-Hook-
It’s no secret I always despised Peter Pan.
A common threat amongst the factions, I should’ve killed him when I had the chance, long before he sank his claws deep into Tinksley’s heart.
But his death at my hands wasn’t what the plan called for, despite how I felt for her.
I’d always been drawn to the girl, innocently enough at first…until that vile abomination marked her with his stamp, unleashing a sense of propriety I had no rights to.
Didn’t matter—he had her...and I wanted her.
Then like magic, he disappeared.
I thought my time had come, but the road to owning Tinksley’s heart comes with a price.
A price so dark and depraved it strips her of her purity and awakens the beast within.
All because of the truth.
Sometimes, there is honor in revenge, and it will be my utmost pleasure to watch as Peter Pan finally meets his maker.
His maker who will soon be my Queen.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I used to like Peter Pan as a child, but as an adult i can see how Hook is overlooked and is just reacting to the childishness that is Peter and the prodding and poking he does to Hook and his men to get them to react.

This book really turns the tale into something that kept me turning the pages and really falling for Hook a little more than before.

Poor Think has been in love with Peter and Peter ending up breaking her heart in the worst possible way, when Hook takes Tinkerly in after finding her at death's door, he ends up telling her all the secrets that have been kept from her and in the process, helping her realise that Peter was not the man she thought he was.

Hook looks after Think when she needs him and in turn she falls for the man who always gives her the choice, even if it is hard, he steps up and helps her find her way back from a darl place, into a new world where she is not the little girl she used to be.

I really enjoyed this re-telling of Peter Pan and in fact, much prefer this version as an adult.

REVIEW - The Bangover by Lili Valente

The Book
Release Date: 3 October 2019
Goodreads Link

Dear Self—Do not pass Go, do not bang your oldest friend in the limo on the way to the swanky Vegas hotel. Just get back on the plane, fly home, and forget you almost had co-ed naked best buddy time time with the one man who is completely off limits.

I give myself very good advice.
Too bad I suck at taking it.

Not that Colin Donovan, my bad boy rock star best friend, is any help. Walking around looking ridiculously sexy, telling me I’m beautiful and fun and perfect the way I am and somehow making me believe it.

If only we hadn’t drunk so much whiskey that first night, if only I’d kept that red bikini in my suitcase, if only his evil ex-girlfriend hadn’t come sniffing around making me feel all territorial and protective.

And if only I hadn’t been secretly in love with Colin for years before this Friends with Bennies Vacation got started.

Who knows? Maybe the high will be worth the fall.
Either way, there’s no way I’m leaving Vegas without one heck of a Bangover.

The Bangover is a red-hot, laugh out loud rom-com featuring two best friends on a collision course with Vegas-flavored disaster—and each other. It stands alone. No cheating or cliffhangers.

This book is SO damn funny and is a friends to lovers story with such a comedy of errors along with a little mystery thrown in.

Kirby otherwise known as Larry to her best friend Colin is a horror writer and agrees to go to Vegas with her friend in order to help him get over his writers block before he abstains from sex until he can write a new album for his band.  However their drunken discussion leads to a reality that both of them cannot imagine.

After a drunken kiss with Kirby, Colin sees his friend in a new light.  In Vegas a run into his ex-girlfriend has him chasing around Vegas with Kirby in tow, however when they finally seal their friends with benefits, bad things start to happen and poor Colin has to fight to find Kirby.

I really enjoyed this book and the connection that the pair have together was brilliant.  I also really loved the addition of Kirby's cat Murder who certainly added something to the story.  I am really hoping that we get other books for the rest of the members of the band along with Kirby's sister Bridget.

Greyson Montgomery dreams of a simple life, but as the crown prince of Aldora, simple is not in his future. Scarlett Calhoun is a Southern Belle with a heart as big as a Georgia peach. When she meets the charming construction worker, Greyson, it isn’t long before she is embracing the holiday cheer. Soon, she’s teaching him how to cook, falling for his exotic accent and soulful eyes, and joining him on picnic lunches where they talk for hours.

With Christmas Eve nearing, Greyson must fly back to Aldora and either abdicate the throne, or take his rightful place as king. Will he ignore his birthright to remain with Scarlett or will she be royally abandoned?

My Review  4 STARS
**Copy Provided by Tule Publishing for an honest review**

This is a feel good book and for those of you that likes a more modest romance, only has a few kisses in it.

Scarlett has been brought up in Savannah, Georgia with a strict upbringing with a society background and wealthy parents, she does charity work and last year was dumped by the man that she thought was going to marry her.  She is now being tormented by her ex-boyfriends new fiancee, a woman who seems to take pleasure in rubbing Scarletts face in her status.

Greyson is the Crowned Prince of Aldora and has fled to the USA after a bad breakup and a change of heart in where his future lies.  He wants to be a simple man and his love of woodwork has him working as a carpenter.

Greyson and Scarlett meet a few times before they go on a date and Greyson takes pleasure in trying to do something that will please Scarlett.  He takes great delight at shopping for a picnic and making a wonderful picnic basket for them.

Its a very sweet romance where both sides compliment each other with the way they have been raised and they way that they support each other.  It is only Greyson's insecurities that become a problem when he takes Scarlett back home with him for Christmas, letting out of the bag that he is actually royalty.

I liked Greyson's family and that Scarlett does fight for him and that Greyson realises that it is only Scarlett that he wants beside him.

I really did enjoy this Christmas romance, a perfect read for a cold wet day, huddled up inside.

REVIEW - Hate the Game (Love Games #1) by Winter Renshaw

The Book
Release Date: 25 September 2019

Talon Gold is a lot of things: good at football, bad at love. Obsessed with scoring, refuses to play by the rules. Cruel. Relentless. Brilliant. Intoxicatingly attractive.

Despite his demanding reputation and propensity for being the most arrogant a-hole ever to strut Pacific Valley University’s picturesque campus, everyone wants a piece of him: coaches, scouts, and pretty little campus fangirls with pouty lips and perfect top knots.

But Talon … he only wants a piece of me.

And four straight years of infuriating rejection means I’m almost positive he’d take a night with me over a national championship trophy.

But I’m no fool—he only wants me because he can’t have me. And with graduation approaching, time is running out. He’s more desperate than ever, pulling out all the stops and doing everything in his power to get in my good graces.

They say, “Don’t hate the player, hate the game.”

But to that I say, “Why not both?”

I have my reasons ...

Sorry, BMOC. This victory? Not going to happen.

This is almost like a coming of age book where both characters have had hardships in their life, they just mask it to the world.

Irie has been hurt in her past by an ex-boyfriend who was on the football team, therefore when Talan showed an interest in her her Sophomore year she new that she would never reciprocate.  Fast forward to four months until the end of college and although Talan has always tried to make advances she has always turned him down.

Talan has always had an eye for Irie and when he finds that he has a class with her he manages to be her partner and keeps pressing for more until she gives in.

Talan shows Irie what it is to be loved, he protects her and is there for her even when she wobbles.  Both characters are strong, but together make each other stronger.

The ending is wonderfully optimistic and shows what can be done if you give in to trust the right person.
