REVIEW - The Goddess Gets Her Guy by Ashlyn Chase

The Book
Release Date: 26 November 2019
Goodreads Link

What happens when the goddess meets Mr. Right...but she absolutely can't tell him who she really is?

After leaving his job as a cardiac surgeon, Dr. Aaron Samuels needs a new purpose in his life. Wanting to help his patients even if he can't operate, he heads to the Puerto Rican rainforest to find a cure for heart disease. He never imagined he'd meet a beautiful, mysterious woman, especially not one talking to a frog in the middle of the jungle...

Gaia--a.k.a. Mother Nature--has had it with paranormals breaking her number one rule: Never reveal your supernatural powers to humans, not even your mate. Fed up, she transports to the rainforest, happy to converse with amphibians who don't talk back. But Dr. Samuels is a much better conversationalist, and Gaia can't wait to help him mend all those broken hearts he told her about.

When her attempts to help only complicate things between them, Gaia begins to wonder what would happen if she opened her heart and was honest with Aaron...and herself. Maybe her number one rule has been wrong all along...

**My thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I have read a few books from this author and have so far loved every book that i have come across.  The only reason that this book did not get 5 stars is because it is a little heavy on the save the world theme.

I did love that we got to see characters from two other the authors other series, Boston Dragons and Phoenix Brothers and that they now all know each other and have relocated to Costa Rica.

Mother Earth (Gaia) did seem to need a lot of assistance by her sister Karma and Fate in understanding the modern world, and at times there were lessons for all of us to learn in this book.

I do love my fantasy books and will certainly look for more from this author in the future.

ONE NIGHT WITH THE DRUMMER OF SUNSET REVIVAL?
Yes, I'm game.

Dani Mills, drummer of the world-famous band, Sunset Revival, doesn’t have time for romance. Touring with her bandmates across the country, she’s content with meaningless sex: one-night-stands, no kissing, no personal details. These are her rules…and there are never exceptions.

John Michaels lives a life of seclusion in Corolla, North Carolina. He works, eats, and sleeps—and is perfectly content with his lifestyle. He doesn’t have the time, or energy, to deal with people. Or relationships. Especially women relationships.

When Sunset Revival gets stranded on the beach, it’s John who is asked for shelter. With his sexy-as-sin good looks—covered in ink with blue eyes so deep they shine—Dani finds herself desperate for one night in his bed. That’s all either of them wants, really…one night, no-strings, no promise of tomorrow.

Yet, when one night turns into two, both find themselves breaking their own rules. Thrust into a whirlwind of passion and desire, the pair struggle to maintain the upper hand, with John learning the hardest lesson of all…never kiss a Rockstar.

REVIEW - A Bramble House Christmas (Carrigans of the Circle C #6) by C.J. Carmichael

Finn Knightly a.k.a. Finn Conrad wants to know why his recently deceased father left his nurse fifty thousand dollars after knowing her a mere six weeks. So he travels to Bramble House B&B in Marietta, Montana to find answers.

But Willa Knightly is not the conniving woman he expects to find. Before he knows it, Willa-and her six-year-old son Scout-are stealing his heart. And that’s before he finds out Scout’s secret and the real reason this Christmas is so important.

My Review 3.5 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Tule Publishing for an honest review**

I would say that this is the best book of the series which is kinda of sad, because it leaves us with questions unanswered which annoyed me.

Willa is a nurse who helped Finn's dad in his dying days, it is only because his dad left her some money in his will that Finn knows anything about Willa.  His dad also gave Willa a ring and bought her a trip to Marietta, Montana for christmas before he died.

Following Willa to Marietta, Finn gets more than her bargained for.  He suspects a bit of a gold digger.  What he gets is a compassionate single mother with a son who is only just in remission from cancer and with big debts to pay.

The romance was sweet and it was nice to see who these characters ended connecting with the previous characters.

What did annoy me though was the added element of the rings and a necklace.  We find out that at one point the Branbles had four rings and a necklace made.  We find out where two of the rings are, but nothing else.  This makes you think there are going to be more books to find them, however as this book was published four years ago with no other follow ups, its safe to say we will never find out what happened to them.

It is a brilliant feel good book for the holidays, which you can now find as a film too.

REVIEW - Sacrifice (Ryze #3.5) by N. Isabelle Blanco

The Book
Release Date: 12 November 2019
Goodreads Link

Releasing as part of the 2019 Sinister Fairy Tales Collectionand part of the Dark Paranormal Ryze Series, but can be read as a Standalone!

Megara

We all know the story.
How it ended.
He survived and conquered each task.
Became the hero of all heroes.
And in the end he became a legend.
What no one told you is that I was there. I was helping him . . . and when he ascended, I was left behind to rot.
Herakles never knew I sold my soul for his success—he didn’t need to. Had I been enough on my own, he would’ve chosen to stay.
Instead, he rose to full glory.
I was dragged straight to Hades.
Beaten.
Violated.
Broken.
Eventually, mutated.
I lost track of him for nearly three millennia, but I’ve found him.
I will kill him.
He chose to become a god; I was forced to become a nightmare.
Now it’s time for us to meet again.

Herakles

I abandoned my family mere moments before the Greek pantheon fell.
‘Till this day the whispers accuse me.
Had I been there, perhaps they could’ve been saved.
But I no longer gave a fuck.
Funny how vanity can blind a male to what really matters.
It took less than a year on Olympus before I began searching for her again.
I never found her.
Now, two-in-a-half-thousand years later, here I am.
Alone.
Empty.
An immortal ghost, simply getting by.
I should’ve never left her.
The only thing I had was hoping the last of her mortal days, wherever she ended up, were happy . . .
Joke’s on me.
A darkened, twisted version of my female returns, demanding my head for every one of my sins.
And she shall have it.
But first, I’m saving her from her curse.
I’ll sacrifice every ounce of my sanity left to free her . . . right before I let her end me once and for all.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

The author has done it again with this novella, she has created a world where you can actually believe this stuff happens in real life and the world building is incredible, let alone the amount of detail and myth brought to life.

Megara and Kles get together again in a twist of fate, Kles still loves Meg,  Meg however hates Kles because of what has become of herself.

I really enjoyed the novella, totally going along with their story and hoping that we get more of them in future books and loving that we got to see at least one character from the Ryze series in it at one point.

I can't wait to see how the rest of this series pans out.

REVIEW - Man Cuffed by Sarina Bowen & Tanya Eby

The Book
Release Date: 19 November 2019

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

Mac
A good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.
I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

Meg
Hey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment.
Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple.
Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

My Review  5 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Another laugh out loud at times book that gave me both happy and sad tears.  The author double team has done it again and knocked out another  belter, that you will not be able to put down.

Mac is a seriously hot cop, but he has issues from a past relationship, that is until a feisty woman called Meg moved in next door and challenges his and pushes his without him realising the space that she is taking up in his life.

Meg has not been a very successful actor in the last ten years, almost getting the part so many times, but thinking her skin colour has been the thing pulling her back.  It is only after meeting Mac and going to a bridal shower that things take a different turn in her career.

Meg stands up for herself and called Mac out on his bullshit straight away, their friends with benefits has Meg seeing more of Mac than he is really comfortable with, Meg good old Meg helps him grow.

It is only after Mac has been stupid and his sister Rosie and a friend step in to help does Mac realise what he really wants with Meg and we get a happy ever after.

We also have to give a shout out to Mac's partner Lance who seems quite a character with a very varied reading background.  Love that guy and i really hope that he too manages to get a book with a HEA.

REVIEW - A Cowgirl's Christmas (Carrigans of the Circle C #5) by C.J. Carmichael

The Book
Release Date: 24 October 2014
Goodreads Link

For years Callan Carrigan has been her father's right hand man, so when her dad's will names city slicker Court McAllister the new owner of The Circle C Ranch, Callan feels betrayed on every level.

Then she and her sisters find their mother's diaries, hidden from them by their father since their mother's accidental death 18 years ago, and the shocking revelations explain a lot. Reeling, Callan seeks refuge in the local saloon, where it seems no one can reach her, until Court offers her a challenge.

If she agrees to be foreman at the Circle C for one year, he'll deed the ranch back to her and her sisters. The deal seems too sweet at first--until Callan realizes Court has his eyes on something she protects even more than her family's land--her heart.

My Review  3 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Tule Publishing for an honest review**

This book brings the four girls story to a conclusion and we get closure of some sort for the girls and their mother.  Their father will always be a sore point to an extent.

Although i preferred this story to the other sisters Callan cam off like a petulant child who did not get what she wanted.  Therefore 95% of the book has her ignoring Court and there is very little action between them.

Court is a lovely man and helps Callan out and makes friends with the Circle C staff, getting to know his new duties and new staff.  He never gives up on Callan and finds out that the nice man he knew was not the man that the girls knew and it troubles him.

Again very little actually happens between the pair and we just get one or two light kisses before they suddenly realise that they have fallen for each other.

The sisters are a great support for each other and it is nice to see that they all got nice men that they deserved.

My Review  3 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Tule Publishing for an honest review**

I liked that this was a story that happened around the festive period.  Although this book is part of a series, this book very much felt like it could be read as a stand alone story and did not add anything that i could see to the previous books.

Eliza Bramble came to Marietta in order to get over a heart break two years ago and now her past is trying to get back in touch with her.  In order to escape him she signs up for a holiday at a remote lodge for the christmas period.

Marshall is in charge of the trip and falls for Eliza and her ways as well as her looks.  He's a very sweet man with a little inferiority complex as he wonders why no woman has snapped him up yet.

Its a very sweet read, for those of you that like a VERY slow build this is for you and it only has a little kissing right at the very end.

REIVEW - Close to Her Heart (Carrigans of the Circle C #3) by C.J. Carmichael

The Book
Release Date: 23 September 2014
Goodreads Link

Dani Carrigan, the academic of the Carrigan family, has always relied on logic when making important life decisions. But when she discovers she’s pregnant—and that there’s a chance her baby may be born “not perfect”—deciding what to do isn’t so easy.

It would help if the father, Adrian Carlson, department head at the University of Washington in Seattle where they both work, would pop the question. But the widower seems more interested in protecting his six-year-old daughter than committing to his new relationship with Dani.

The last time Dani felt so alone and scared was when she was sixteen and her mother died in an accident at their family ranch, leaving Dani to raise her younger sisters with precious little help from her distant and disapproving father. She felt so inadequate then. But is she any more prepared to be a mother now?

Support comes from an unlikely source. Dani always saw her next-door neighbour and friend, divorce attorney Eliot Gilmore, as a charming, handsome, playboy-type. But with each challenge Dani faces, from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond—Eliot reveals himself to be more of a man than she ever guessed. Is it possible that in all the years she’s known him, Eliot hasn’t been playing the field—but waiting for her?

My Review  3 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Tule Publishing for an honest review**

This book was a lot more positive than the last book and although Dani is a smart person, it is very easy to make mistakes like hers.

Dani gets pregnant after being with a colleague for six months, but is treated more like a dirty secret.Even though she initially wanted more from Aiden, her actually treats her very badly, but she is a strong woman and has the support of one on her two friends, Eliot.

Eliot is a successful lawyer and helps people back together if he can, he has a heart of gold and while helping Dani where he can, actually finds that he more than likes her as a friend.  He is always there when Dani needs him and supports her when she does not realise that she needs help.

Its a sweet read, but again the ending and the pair getting together as a couple at the end just seems really rushed and incomplete.

REVIEW - Good Together (Carrigans of the Circle C #2) by C.J. Carmichael

The Book
Release Date: 3 February 2014
Goodreads Link

Some love stories have to begin with a falling-out-of-love story. Mattie Carrigan's been helping her rodeo cowboy husband Wes Bishop run his family's Tennessee Walking Horse operation since they were married nineteen years ago. Blessed with twin daughters who've recently left for college, Mattie is looking forward to this new stage in her and Wes's life. But when she finds a strange key in her husband's jacket, she's forced to admit that Wes has been quiet and distant lately. Turns out he has been keeping secrets. And he's not the only one. Even the rancher next door, Nat Diamond–a friend Mattie could always count on in the past–seems to be holding something back from her.

Good Together is for anyone who has ever pondered what it means to be married. Or had to reinvent her life when one breaks down. It's about having your heart broken but being strong enough to survive and love again.

My Review  2 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Tule Publishing for an honest review**

Sadly, this book missed the mark for me.  It stayed more on the negative path and Mattie spent 95% of the book crying over her failed marriage, with the other 5% missing her children and wanting her neighbour Nat.

Lots of negativity in this book and Mattie was not the character i thought she was.  For a lady who spent the majority of her time being an all but single mother most of her married life it was disappointing to see her act like a lost puppy.

The sides of the story from the daughters lives also seemed pointless.  The story should have just focused on Mattie and Nat, but it seemed like the daughters side was just space filler and the ending did seem more than a little rushed.

I did however enjoy that the story focused on a more mature woman, even though this one acted like she had been completely sheltered her whole life.

BLOG TOUR (Review) - Dirty Letters by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

The Book
Release Date: 5 November 2019
Goodreads Link

I’d never forgotten him—a man I’d yet to meet.

Griffin Quinn was my childhood pen pal, the British boy who couldn’t have been more different from me. Over the years, through hundreds of letters, we became best friends, sharing our deepest, darkest secrets and forming a connection I never thought could break.

Until one day it did.

Then, out of the blue, a new letter arrived. A scathing one—one with eight years of pent-up anger. I had no choice but to finally come clean as to why I stopped writing.

Griffin forgave me, and somehow we were able to rekindle our childhood connection. Only now we were adults, and that connection had grown to a spark. Our letters quickly went from fun to flirty to downright dirty, revealing our wildest fantasies. So it only made sense that we would take our relationship to the next level and see each other in person.

Only Griff didn’t want to meet. He asked that I trust him and said it was for the best. But I wanted more—more Griff, in the flesh—so I took a big chance and went looking for him. People have done crazier things for love.

But what I found could change everything.

Excerpt
The small dining room table had a pile of mail. I’d had Dad’s mail forwarded to my house, so mostly it was just catalogs and junk. Once a month, Mrs. Cascio sent me everything that arrived, even though I’d told her it wasn’t necessary. I mindlessly fingered through the pile, not expecting to see anything worth keeping. But I stopped at an envelope addressed to me—well, not me, but Luca Ryan. That was a name I hadn’t heard in a long time. In second grade, my teacher, Mrs. Ryan, started a pen pal writing program with a small town in England. We weren’t allowed to use our real last names for safety reasons, so the entire class used her last name—hence I was Luca Ryan. I checked out the return address for the sender’s name.
G. Quinn
Wow, really? It couldn’t be.
I squinted at the postmark. It was from a PO box in California, not England, but I didn’t know any other Quinn other than Griffin. And the handwriting did look pretty familiar. But it had been close to eight years since we’d exchanged letters. Why would he write now? Curious, I ripped it open and scanned right to the bottom of the letter for the name. Sure enough, it was from Griffin. I started at the beginning.

Dear Luca,

Do you like scotch? I remember you said you didn’t like the taste of beer. But we never did get around to comparing our taste in hard liquor. Why is that, you might ask? Let me remind you—because you stopped answering my letters eight damn years ago. I wanted to let you know, I’m still pissed off about that. My mum used to say I hold grudges. But I prefer to think of it as I remember the facts. And the fact of the matter is, you suck. There, I’ve said it. I’ve been holding that shit in for a long time. Don’t get me wrong—I’m not obsessive or anything. I don’t sit in my house thinking about you all day long. In fact, there have been months that go by when thoughts of you don’t even enter my brain. But then some random thing will pop into my head out of the blue. Like I’ll see some kid in a pram eating black licorice, and I’ll think of you. Side note—I’ve tried it again as an adult, and I still think it tastes like the bottom of my shoe, so perhaps it’s that you just have no taste. You probably don’t even like scotch. Anyway, I’m sure this letter won’t find its way to you. Or if by some miracle it does, you won’t answer. But if you’re reading this, you should know two things.
1. The Macallan 1926 is worth the extra cash. Goes down smooth.
2. You SUCK.

Later, traitor, Griffin

What in the hell?

My Review  5 STAR
**My thanks to Montlake Romance for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is the first time that i have either read a collaboration between these authors or read anything by Penelope Ward.  I can honestly say that i really enjoyed this book and that i will more than likely read more from these authors in the future.

Griff sends Luca a letter, the first letter that Luca has received in eight years after an accident just stopped her sending letters back to her penpal Griff.  His letter prompts her to open his last letter and the rest starts from there.

Luca has many issues, most which result from a friends death in a fire at a concert and she is now agoraphobic and apart from not leaving her house much, she also hates anywhere even slightly crowded.

Griff is finally a musician, but he has found that it comes at a cost and he has struggled to find someone to be close with.  After their letter connection and subsequent dirty letters, after a leap of faith, finally meet.

The chemistry between the pair is awesome and the way that Griff looks after Luca without being asked and fights for the girl he loves is simply heart warming.  Luca is certainly one lucky girl with how Griff takes care of her and her needs even if it hurts him.

I really, really enjoyed this story and look forward to more collaborations from these authors.
