REVIEW - A Thin Disguise (Richter #2) by Catherine Bybee

 The Book

Release Date:  6 July 2021

Goodreads Link

A former gun for hire and a federal agent find themselves on the right side of love but the wrong end of a bullet in this Richter installment from New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee.

On a fateful night in Las Vegas, FBI agent Leo Grant is working on a critical detail in a high-profile child prostitution trial when a beautiful woman jumps into the path of a bullet meant for him. Little does Leo know that the woman is Olivia, an ex-assassin who is seeking redemption one good deed at a time.

One minute, Olivia is lunging in front of Leo on the Vegas Strip. The next, she’s waking up in the hospital in a haze of pain with no memory of her past, her enemies, or even her own name.

With Olivia suffering from memory loss and completely unaware of the danger she is in, it’s up to Leo and Neil MacBain’s team of operatives to keep her safe. With Olivia and Leo both unaware of her past crimes, the two have little reason to avoid their growing attraction. Slowly her past seeps in through the cracks as she struggles to find the answers of who she is. When the veil is lifted and her dark past is staring her down, Olivia must turn her back on Leo and the love she can never allow herself to have, and race to find her would-be killer.

My Review  5 STARS

**My thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Romance, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone book.  It is also a spin off series from most of the other series as characters overlap and intermingle.

Olivia is another student from Richter, the school that Sasha and Claire went to.  She is more closed off to the world than most, but after a mission goes slightly wrong after meeting Leo, she gets shot and loses her memory.

Leo is an FBI agent and is used to going undercover.  His does not like the fact that someone he was intrigued by however gets shot infront of him as he does not know if the bullet was meant for her of for him.

Being in close quarters and with Neil McBains security team, Leo and Olivia become close and it has an affect of Olivia when she finally gets her memory back.

I really enjoyed this story, seeing characters from previous books and stories and all the details that the author provides to give I also love that she is not shy of writing about those harder to think about subjects like child trafficking, drug and the mafia.

I look forward to seeing what challenges Jax will have and now Richter has affected her.

All Fired Up by Lili Valente

 The Book

Release Date: 15 July 2021

Goodreads Link

I’m the station’s youngest fire chief, a grown man, and fully in my right mind—which means I’m not going to fall for the One Who Got Away.

That’s not the kind of person I am.
Second chances are like skipping leg day—I don’t do that. Ever.

But I wasn’t counting on Naomi buying me at the firefighter charity auction. Now I’m forced into a month of dates with the one woman who cuts through my defenses like no one else, and I’m starting to think maybe she’s right…maybe we are different people than the teenagers who failed at love.

Maybe this isn’t a fire I have to put out.
Maybe for the first time in my life I can relax and just…let it burn.

Or maybe we’re both about to learn that fire isn’t something you should underestimate—especially the kind that burns between a man and a woman.

The complete Hometown Heroes series releases this summer!

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This book is a small town romance along with a second chance at love that sweeps you away with the characters and the changes that have happened to them since they last saw each other fifteen years ago.

Naomi and Jake have changed in many ways since they split all those years ago.  Naomi left Jake without a goodbye, because she knew that he was the one thing that would stop her from leaving to fulfil her dreams.

Coming back to her hometown, Jake is now in charge at the Fire Station and Naomi is liking her wounds after things went south with her fiancĂ©.  She is back with her broken sister and her brother who has also suffered, they are now looking after each other while their parents are away and have a really good sibling bond.

Naomi is a strong character and I not afraid to take the hard subjects even if they are hard to talk about, whilst Jake shows he can grow and give second chances to the one person that he has never really stopped loving.

This is a wonderful read with really great supportive cast that you just can't help but root for.

REVIEW - God of Temptation (Immortal Matchmakers, Inc., #7) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

The Book

Release Date: 28 June 2021

Goodreads Link

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes GOD OF TEMPTATION , a very-probably-inappropriate Paranormal Romance.

Tula Jones is a simple farmgirl who never dreamed she’d fall for a real-life god. And not just any god. When it comes to Zac, God of Temptation, no man is more dedicated, sexy, and alluring on the planet. Hello! Temptation powers!

But when Zac and his brethren mysteriously disappear, Tula is beside herself. Watch out. I’m coming to save my man! (And the rest of his kind.) But where are they?

Then she receives a photo from a mysterious stranger, and the news is devastating. The gods are prisoners in the underworld, and Zac has been cheating with the other “guests.”

Tula doesn’t want to believe Zac would betray her. She and Zac are soul mates, right?

But if she wants the truth, Tula must answer the summons from a demon who’s hellbent on taking over the world.

And he wants to keep her.

Note: This can be read as a standalone, but it’s a smidgeon more fun if you’ve read the other crazy books. This is the series FINALE. Yes, I mean it this time. No. Really. You can’t have more. Snort.

My Review. 5 STARS

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This story continues with all the stuff you expect to come from this author.  Sometimes nail biting, wondering what is going to happen next, twist and turns you did not see coming, lots of amazing supporting characters and male characters with all the confidence of gods that have been around for thousands of years.

This is a crazy train of action and you cant do anything but hope that Zac and Tula get the happy ending they deserve and that the Gods manage to get free and back to their families.

Demon Maury certainly has his tricks up his sleeve and manages to confuse us, but Zac sees through him eventually and takes the right turn.

The story is told from both Zac and Tula's point of view and we see how they navigate their way through Maury's tricks and fight for their love.

The book also lets us meet the Tailor, that will have his own book and sounds an interesting character.  Hopefully we will get to see more from our immortal friends.

Another mind bending and amazing book from the author.

REVIEW - The Cowboy’s Baby Agreement (Wells Brothers #2) by Leslie North

Goodreads Link

At 30 and single, Mina Heath has made the biggest decision of her life: she wants to have a baby. After perusing the local sperm bank’s donor contenders, she’s stunned to realize that her favorite anonymous donor is someone she knows. Someone she had a painful crush on in high school. It’s been years since that heart-wrenching moment when she discovered Liam Wells didn’t reciprocate her feelings, but with the injured rodeo star and potential baby daddy back in town, it’s pretty difficult to ignore the hot cowboy. And it becomes impossible to ignore him when she gets stranded in his cabin during a snowstorm—especially when Liam suggests she try to get pregnant the old-fashioned way.

On the pretext of making sure the contract baby becomes reality, he ensures they get together as often as possible. After being a thrill-junky and in the limelight for so many years before his injury, he’s finally found a soft place to fall— right into Mina’s arms. Still, Mina is determined to do everything on her own and Liam convinces himself their no-strings relationship is for the best. Until it isn’t.

Could this cowboy be in love? And can he convince Mina—and himself—that he’s ready to settle down?

My Review  4 STARS

**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Relay Publishing for an honest review**

This is the second book in the series, but can certainly be read as a stand alone story.

Mina is in her 30's and after deciding to go it alone and have a baby, runs into local rodeo rider Liam Wells, a man that broke her heart when she was 16.

When they are standed together in his cabin when the snowy weather forces Mina off the road, the pair finally reconnect and a decision is made when she misses her appointment and Liam offers to help her with her dream, but the old fashioned way.

This one night however brings new dreams up for both of them and Liam finds himself round Mina's a lot 'just to make sure' that he has given her what's she wants.

Its a sweet story and Liam has a good supportive brother behind him, while poor Mina has a grandmother that raised her with dementia and a friendly nurse to talk to.

this is a sweet read that wraps you up in the pages and the story and you cannot help but hope that the ending for the pair is happy and that both characters see what is right in front of their faces.

REVIEW - Meat by Opal Carew

The Book

Release Date: 26 July 2016

Just one taste isn't enough…

I ran into Rex Keene—literally—when I was trying to catch my flight and his muscled, tattooed arms stopped my fall.
Then our flight gets canceled, and we're stranded in the same hotel room together...it ended up being the steamiest night of my life.
All I knew is that I had to see him again.

I just didn’t expect him to show up a week later in the restaurant I manage…as our new head chef.
But the generous, tender man I spent that night with is gone; instead he’s arrogant, demanding, and terrorizing the staff.
But he won’t give up until we’re together – and I’m not sure I can stay away.
Which man is real?
Who is Rex Keene?

From bestselling author Opal Carew, take a bite of Meat.

My Review  3 STARS

**Copy Provided by Netgalley and St Martin's Press for an honest review**

This is a fun fast read and takes off at a run from the very beginning, however I struggled with the almost immediate relationship that they had.

After literally bumping into each other in an airport corridor and sparks flying they end up seeing each other again again at the departure gate.  With a delayed flight and Rebecca in tears after an email from her family over her recently deceased aunt , Rex consoles her and they spend some time together until their flight is cancelled.

Rex is a big tattooed chef, but is not quite what he seems, however he is extremely taken with Rebecca and is quite sure from the first night that Rebecca is the one that he wants, especially when he find out that she works at the same hotel that he has just been hired for.

The book has a good few steamy moments, good friends and one person taking advantage of another, but overall is a fairly decent quick read.

My Review  5 STARS

**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for an honest review**

I really forgot how much I enjoy these books by Kierstan Fay.

This book is the second in the series and I completely demolished it, only putting the book down at times because I had to.

Jessie is a strong independent female and was not afraid to be herself even in a strange place and always spoke her mind and never compromised who she was and what she stood for.  Mean while Orik came across initially as harsh and stoic, but really he was protecting himself and his adopted family after a horrific incident in his past.  They way he ended up looking after Jessie even unwittingly showed that he really does have a marshmallow centre once you managed to gain access into his inner walls.

The world building and description of the flora and fawner was brilliant and really transported me to the alien planet and the supporting characters were really well thought out.

I am really enjoying this series and cannot wait to see how the rest of the series pans out.
