REVIEW - North of Need (Hearts of the Anemoi #1) by Laura Kaye

The Book
Release Date: 1 November 2011
Goodreads Link

While attempting to escape the agonizing memories she associates with Christmas, twenty-nine-year-old widow Megan Snow builds a snow family outside the mountain cabin she once shared with her husband-and collapses in tears against the snowman at the sight of what she'll never have. Called to life by the power of Megan's tears, snow god Owen Winters appears unconscious on her doorstep in the midst of a raging blizzard. As she nurses him to health, Owen finds unexpected solace in her company and unimagined pleasure in the warmth of her body, and vows to win her heart for a chance at humanity. Megan is drawn to Owen's mismatched eyes, otherworldly masculinity, and enthusiasm for the littlest things, and her heart opens enough to believe he's a Christmas miracle. But this miracle comes with an expiration-before the snow melts and the temperature rises, Megan must let go of her widow's grief and learn to trust love again, or she'll lose Owen forever.

My Review  4 STARS
This seemed a quick read, and happens over the festive period of about a week.

Megan Snow is at the lodge she used to spend with her husband who died two years ago and is still having a problem with her grief.  After making a snow family and crying out on the snowman, Owen, Winters, the North Wind appears later after having agreed to help her as her husband is a very watered down relative.

Both have an immediate connection and he helps her not only get over her grief, but move on with him and she takes the truth of his powers very well.

We get so see another paranormal, who is like a father to Owen and we also get a suitably happy ending and a good prologue.

I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

But I know better than to confess.

Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me. Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra…and he actually says yes.

REIVEW - They Started with a Kiss (Magnolia Valley, #8) by Cora Reed

The Book
Release Date: 3 December 2019
Goodreads Link

After a tumultuous year, she gets an unexpected surprise just before Christmas…
Amelia has always tried to do everything right, having all the right friends and marrying her high school sweetheart after graduating college. But the thing with best laid plans? Sometimes they go to hell in a hand basket. Sometimes your perfect husband is gay and then your perfect friends bail.
Then Amelia does something crazy. She has a passionate night with Sebastian Wilder and then leaves while he’s still sleeping.
It's a wake up call. She needs to get her life together, and she doesn't need to complicate Sebastian’s while she does it. Even if she can't stop dreaming about their steamy night.
But when she takes a pregnancy test and it says positive, she realizes she’s about to complicate Sebastian’s life in a big way.
She might have wanted to pursue something with him in the future, but the pregnancy makes that impossible. They need to be friends so they can co-parent their baby, and getting between the sheets again would jeopardize that. So, she definitely won’t open that door again. Definitely not.
But as she gets to know him, she realizes that Sebastian’s the whole package and maybe the biggest risk would be to let him get away.
He's going to prove to her that he’s more than a one-night stand, even if he has to dress up as Santa to do it…
While trying to open the ski resort he’s dreamed of opening for years, the last thing Sebastian needed was a distraction. And Amelia is a distraction from top to bottom.
But when she tells him about her pregnancy like she expects him run as fast as she did after their night together, he makes it his mission to prove her wrong. He isn't that kind of guy. He will be there for her and their child, even if he has to overcome every single one of her reservations.
Soon Sebastian realizes that beneath Amelia's reserved exterior is a passionate, sweet, and hilarious woman. A woman any man would be lucky to call his. And Sebastian is determined that it won't be any man. It'll be him.
And he’s got his work cut out for him between their meddlesome families and her determination to keep him in the co-parent zone, but Sebastian is hoping some holiday magic will work in his favor and he invites her to spend a week at his family’s lodge.
Sebastian is going to show her they have something meant to last long after the Christmas lights are packed away.
Can the holiday season work its magic and help these two find true love?

This is another brilliant book in the series and i really loved Amelia and Sebastian.

I have looked forward to reading Sebastians story for a while now and he really shows what a caring character he is in this book.  He also shows that has more backbone than people give him credit for.

Amelia has had bit of bad luck, but after a slightly drunken one night stand with Sebastian, her life is changed even further, although at first she is kinda scared to no only tell anyone, but find out for sure herself.  With the confirmation of her pregnancy, she goes to Sebastian and they talk it out.

Both still have feelings for each other and agree either way to co-parent their child.  Both have insecurities and although Sebastian is a little scared, he also knows what her wants and he wants Amelia and his child and will do what it takes to be the man that she both wants and needs.

We get to see more of Sebastians brothers and there partners, we also get to other supporting characters and we get a brilliant epilogue.  You are also able to download a further epilogue for a year down the line and it is certainly worth reading.

I am really enjoying this series.

REVIEW - A Family by Christmas by Viv Royce

The Book
Release Date: 14 October 2019
Goodreads Link

Chocolatier Emma Miller has a new business selling bonbons to the residents of the quaint town of Wood Creek. When a tiny visitor stops by her shop with an interesting request, Emma is intrigued. The young girl needs chocolates that will help her widowed dad fall in love, preferably with her teacher. What Emma didn't count on was Casey's ever so charming and handsome dad, Grant, stepping into her life. She has to remind herself to be cautious because the one thing she learned in foster care is that people always leave.

Pilot Grant Galloway is touched by his daughter's gift and is curious about the person who made the world-class chocolates. But when he steps into Emma's shop full of delicious smells and tasty morsels, he forgets to breathe. And it has nothing to do with his favorite dessert. She's pretty and kind, and when she has to deal with a difficult client, his protective instincts kick into high gear. But he risked his heart once. When his wife died, it left him broken. He's just now beginning to pick up the pieces, and he and his daughter will be leaving town once the holidays are over.

Thanks to some Christmas wishes, though, these two might discover that their carefully laid plans are about to change.

My Review  3 STARS
**My thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This was a sweet story based on Emma and Grant.  Emma is a sweet woman who is a little bit too soft to be in business and Grant is a lovely man, who shrinks back a little on finding love again after his wife died.

It is Casey, Grants daughter, who brings the pair together, by trying to get him to fall in love with his teacher.

Its certainly a book to read wrapped up in front of a cosy fire, getting yourself ready for the festive period.

REVIEW - Secret Santa (Milford College #4) by Noelle Adams

The Book
Release Date: 11 December 2019
Goodreads Link

The last thing I want for Christmas is a brand new case of smoking hot attraction for my best friend, Jeremy. I don't think about him that way. I never have. And I can't risk ruining the best relationship in my life because I can't seem to keep my hands off him lately.

I need to focus on safer things, like my secret admirer who keeps sending me romantic Secret Santa presents. Jeremy has always been a grump about Christmas, but someone is clearly into me. I'll have to try to think about him instead.

Secret Santa is the fourth book in the Milford College series, novellas about the faculty and staff of a small liberal arts college.

My Review  4 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is a cute friends to lovers story where May starts to see her best friend Jeremy as more than just her friend and at first it freaks her out a bit.  Jeremy has always had a thing for May.

May loves Christmas and is always wanting to get Jeremy into the Christmas spirit.  This year he finally relents more, but he just wants May to be happy.  With May doing Secret Santa she is not supposed to get gifts, but she does and when she finally figures out who they are from, it really is quite sweet.

We don't get to see many people from the previous book, and the books can be read as a stand alone, however we do get a taster for one of the characters that will be in the next book.

Certainly a good holiday read in front of a roaring fire to help get you in the Christmas spirit.

REVIEW - Humbugged (Happy Cat #4) by Pippa Grant & Lili Valente

The Book
Release Date: 10 December 2019
Goodreads Link

He’s the world’s most alpha Marine and the last man I should be letting jingle my bells this holiday season.

So why does Clint O’Dell keep running through my thoughts wearing nothing but a Santa hat? And why do I stupidly agree that we should be Christmas friends with benefits?

Someone must have spiked my eggnog.

I don’t do Marines.

Or Santas.

I learned my lesson about both the hard way.

But when Clint steps in to rescue me—from a murderous goose, a rogue reindeer, and the ghost of Christmas Right Now causing trouble in my bakery—I can’t help but wonder if we’re meant to be more than friends.

If maybe Clint is the holiday miracle I’ve been praying for…or if all the magic will disappear with the season.

Humbugged is a laugh out loud holiday romp featuring a Marine with a heart of gold and a baker in need of a hero. Complete with the world's most awkward Christmas caroling, a photoshoot with furry friends, and more naughty baked goods than is good or decent.

My Review  5 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

These two authors have pulled out all the stops and given us yet another brilliantly witty and funny book in this series. It's certainly had to be a humbug reading this as you cannot help but route for Noelle and Clint to get together and find out that they complete each other.

Clint has wanted Noelle since the moment he laid eyes on her, Noelle on the other hand is trying to cope after a failed relationship had her running from her problems.  Joelle grew up a military brat and her ex boyfriend was a professional Santa.  Needless to say she has a little thing about xmas and is trying to put on a brave face.

Neither can deny the attraction between them even though Clint is a good few years younger than her, however they agree to a quite friends with benefits situations, however with mysterious things happening in Noels bakery, we get Clint to the rescue and along with a solved mystery we also get a pair of love birds growing together with big decisions in their future.

Certainly a recommended series with lots of funny animal antics.

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a snarky Mystery with a side dish of Romance and two sprinkles of chaos, THE LIBRARIAN’S VAMPIRE ASSISTANT, Book Four.

(Yep! These books are STANDALONES. But the more you read, the merrier!)

SHE’S MINE. BUT HAS SHE FORGOTTEN?

A crazy vampire has stolen my librarian. And if that’s not bad enough, it is my fault. Because I, too, am an ancient, deadly vampire, and it was my job to protect her. I failed.

Apparently, this evil vampire has brainwashed her into thinking she belongs with him. I do not know how. I do not know why. But I will get to the bottom of this and win her back.

Because I am the motherf*!$%ing librarian’s vampire assistant, and she belongs to me. Or, at least she used to?

Holy Moly.  This series just keeps getting better and better with so many twists and turns that you never see what is coming next.

This book happens five years after the previous book and Michael is not quite the man that he was.  When Lula come to him with news , it changes him forever in so many ways.

This book comes dual point of view, must most of the beginning is from Michaels view and we see the torment that he goes through.

I cannot wait to see what happens in book five and if Michael manages to change again.

REVIEW - NEVER KISS A ROCKSTAR (ROCKSTARS in KILL DEVIL HILLS, book 2) By Sarah Darlington

The Book
Release Date: 4 December 2019

ONE NIGHT WITH THE DRUMMER OF SUNSET REVIVAL?
Yes, I'm game.

Dani Mills, drummer of the world-famous band, Sunset Revival, doesn’t have time for romance. Touring with her bandmates across the country, she’s content with meaningless sex: one-night-stands, no kissing, no personal details. These are her rules…and there are never exceptions.

John Michaels lives a life of seclusion in Corolla, North Carolina. He works, eats, and sleeps—and is perfectly content with his lifestyle. He doesn’t have the time, or energy, to deal with people. Or relationships. Especially women relationships.

When Sunset Revival gets stranded on the beach, it’s John who is asked for shelter. With his sexy-as-sin good looks—covered in ink with blue eyes so deep they shine—Dani finds herself desperate for one night in his bed. That’s all either of them wants, really…one night, no-strings, no promise of tomorrow.

Yet, when one night turns into two, both find themselves breaking their own rules. Thrust into a whirlwind of passion and desire, the pair struggle to maintain the upper hand, with John learning the hardest lesson of all…never kiss a Rockstar.

**NEVER KISS A ROCKSTAR can be read as a standalone, or as the second book in Sarah Darlington's NEVER TRUST Series.

My Review  5 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is a stand alone book, as are the others, but i do think that you will benefit from reading the previous book in the series, just to get a better background on all the characters.

Dani is the drummer from Sunset Rival and the moment she sees John, she knows that she wants him.  What she doesn't know however, is how far she will end up breaking her rules, just for him.  John makes her feel safe and the longer she stays with him, the more she wants to stay with him.

John has been by himself for the last four years, ever since his last girlfriend cheated on him.  He tends to be closed off and likes his  space, however he makes an exception for Dani.  She burrows into his skin and he looks after her, and is a constant presence, being there when she needs him and standing up for her.  I really loved John and would like him for myself.

The pair were brilliant together and the chemistry was certainly hot between them.  We still get to see more of the other characters and the time when they spend in Kill Devil Hills.

I certainly also enjoyed the bonus chapters that you can download to read, certainly worth the time.

This is a lovely collection of stories, and after having read this i have found some new to me authors that i would like to try and revisit at some point.

I loved MILF on the shelf and the way the story was crafted and put into the Magnificent Bastard series and we got to hear from Penny a little too.  Maggie is a single mom who is on good terms with her ex-husband, but in needing a date for an event turns to Penny and she meets Cooper.  Coop is the first man that has tempted her in a very long time and her bad luck turns into something special.
