Ten Tiny Breaths (Ten Tiny Breaths 1) - K.A. Tucker

The Book
Release Date: 12 February 2013
Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.

Four years ago Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend, and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend’s lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, twenty-year-old Kacey and her fifteen-year-old sister, Livie, escape Grand Rapids, Michigan, to start over in Miami. Struggling to make ends meet, Kacey needs to figure out how to get by. But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.

Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and he perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means that an explosive secret could shatter both their worlds.

My Opinion  5 STARS
This book is thought provoking and kinda intense.

You really feel for the Kasey (the lead character), and her supporting characters have been well scripted.

I thought that Storm seemed a lovely genuine person, Tanner was sweet even if he was a little weird, the boys at the club were protective and Livie was stronger than she realised.

You did feel feel sorry for Trent and his emotional baggage, you can only imagine how hard it must have been for him too.

Office Dan was a nice placement and a consistent with the amount of times the police seemed to pop up.

I can only hope that the next book is just a good as the first.

Crimson Frost (Mythos Academy 4) - Jennifer Estep

The Book
Release Date: 24 December 2012
For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes—the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki—the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming.

I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison—and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself…

My Opinion  4 STARS
Crimson Frost was fast-paced and extremely intense, but nothing felt rushed or glossed over. Gwen Frost's problems started within the first few pages and continued until the end of the novel. Some of the issues were solved during the course of the book, but others got added as they should in a good series leading you into the next book.

Gwen really grows in this book and comes to rely on her friends even though she is at war with herself for the possibility of them getting hurt or killed trying to help her. The loyalty of her friends though all the adversity is heartwarming.

A great read.

Our Souls to Keep - Gary A Caruso

The Book
After seventeen-year-old Wake Reynolds agrees to trade his life to prevent the damaged soul of his suicidal mother from the fiery tortures of Hell, Satan strips him of his humanity and forces him to become a demonic collector of souls. With no memory of his human existence, Wake preys on defenseless teenagers until they willingly end their own lives.

After many years of loyal service, something inside Wake is changing. Images of a forgotten life, lost human emotions begin to emerge. As Wake struggles to keep these new sensations hidden, Satan orders him to corrupt the soul of a pregnant girl, Annemarie. Beautiful, gentle Annemarie. From the moment Wake sees her, she brings lightness to his blackened heart. If he chooses to defy Satan and spare the lives of Annemarie and her unborn child, his mother’s soul will writhe in Hell’s deepest pit for eternity. Annemarie or his mother? It’s a choice no one should have to make.

My Opinion  5 STARS
I received a free copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

This is quite a dark book that takes you on a ride from the first page and continues to carry momentum.

There is however a thread that seems to remind me of the film Dogma. The difference? The girl is already pregnant and they are protecting the soul of the child. The person sent after her is a demon, who has a change of heart. They even are racing to get the pregnant mother to a church where she will be safe.

The best bit. This is the first book in a long time where the ending is both sad and happy. But it has been left in such a way that could lead to another book.

For a first book from the author the writing is excellent and gripping, with at times, a wonderful sense of humour.

I look forward to seeing what else the author comes out with in the future.

Scarred (Scarred 1) - J.S. Cooper

The Book
Everyone in Jonesville thought that Bryce Evans had the perfect life in High School: he was the Mayor's son, the quarterback for the football team, the boyfriend of the head cheerleader and had a 4.1 GPA. His acceptance to Notre Dame came as no surprise but when he chose to enlist in the army instead everyone was shocked.

Lexi Jones was the quiet girl in school and kept to her small group of eccentric friends. She had no connection to any of the popular kids except for one incident on Prom Night when her path crossed with Bryce's.

When Bryce enlisted Lexi was the only one that wasn't disappointed and decided to send him anonymous letters as a way to feel connected to him. She stopped after a year because she felt there was nowhere for their relationship to go.

Fast-forward four years and Bryce is back in Jonesville and once again he and Lexi cross paths. Only he's no longer the seemingly perfect man and Lexi's no longer the quiet girl.

This time their relationship is quite different but both of them have secrets from the past and friends that threaten to ruin their chance at happiness together.

My Opinion  2.5 STARS
This book was ok, but it really wasn't all that special. To be honest i was a bit disappointed in it because it has the potential to be so much better even with the cliff hanger ending.

I am really hoping that the second book in the series is that so better than this.

Darkness Kindled (Fire Spirits 4) - Samantha Young

The Book
Ari Johnson wishes adjusting to living with her boyfriend was her only source of excitement and anxiety.
She wishes a lot of things.
But then wishing was what got her here in the first place.

Ari chose to be a Guild Hunter. She wanted to hunt dangerous Jinn and destroy them before they could harm innocent people. But now that Ari is a member of The Guild, she finds herself in the impossible position of hunting her ex-best friend – human-turned-dangerous sorcerer, Charlie Creagh. As Ari struggles to come to terms with her duty, an ancient Jinn and his companion want revenge on her for using the command of the Seal against them; the White King refuses to give up on his quest to resurrect Lilif, and Asmodeus isn’t done toying with her.

When Ari can take no more, rushing to the Sultan Azazil’s side to demand of him the favor he owes her, the events she sets in motion will not only alter everyone’s lives, it will kindle a darkness that will shake the realms to their very core.

My Opinion  5 STARS
This book was a brilliant ending to a fantastic series. This was the best book of them all.

I loved how everyone came together, showing solidarity in their cause. The ending? Epic

I can't praise this series enough.

Would love to have a full book with Fallon and the man she marries.

My Opinion  5 STARS
I so love Owen, and boy, what an ending! Such a mind fuck.

I am sooo looking forward to seeing what happens next and hoping that its Kellen's story we see next.

The next book can't come fast enough.

Music of the Heart (Runway Train 1) - Katie Ashley

The Book
For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn't in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

My Opinion  4 STARS
I loved this book. The emotions between is a tangible thing you can almost taste.

The writing is good and it has really started this series off well, i really can't wait for the next book to come along.

I liked the fact that the author was not afraid to have the male lead show true emotions like crying. It really added to the believability of his emotions.

This is an author i will gladly read again.

Battlescars: A Rock & Roll Romance (Battlescars 1) - Sophie Monroe

The Book
Aubrey Thompson is a twenty-three year old flight attendant for her dad’s small commercial fleet. She’s a sarcastic smartass that has no problem telling you where to go. She also despises rock stars…but that’s all part of the story. Her Granny Jean is spy and will have you laughing out loud.

In comes Jake Parker, the twenty-five year old lead singer of Battlescars. His reputation is the untamable bad-boy. He’s completely “balls to the wall” in everything that he does. Two days after returning home from a month long tour across Europe he gets a visit from Bruce, an executive from the record label. He informs Jake that Battlescars is going back on tour for three months. What everyone doesn’t know is that Jake is worn down and sick of the same old shit.

His record label hires Aubrey’s dads company to fly him around for the last minute tour. In order to keep her dad's company afloat they will have to learn to play nice. When Jake first meets Aubrey she refuses to even acknowledge his existence. He sees her as refreshing and a challenge.

Both of them have some pretty heavy scars from their pasts holding them back. Can Jake get Aubrey to let him in? Or will she shoot him down based on his outlandish reputation? Will her fear of getting hurt again keep him out for good?

Are the two of them a match in heaven or hell?

Here's a peek:
“Who are we flying this time? It better not be that creepy Carter guy again. I left him walking funny for a week last time.”
“No, he’s no longer a client here.” My dad said with a flinch. Carter Murphy was an arrogant ass. His dad owns Murphy Enterprises and he thinks he’s entitled to everything he wants, including women. He learned the lesson the hard way with me that you can’t always get what you want. We were flying from Houston to Dallas, a complete waste of fossil fuel if you ask me, when he decided he wanted to cop a feel. Boy was he surprised when I copped a feel of my own and twisted, hard. I still wish I had a Polaroid of his face. I would hang it as a warning to anyone else that wanted a try.

My Opinion  2 STARS
I really wanted to like this book but the writing style just didn't work for me.

There is a good basis for a story there its just hard to read with all the short sentences.

The writer does however have a good sense of humour in her writing style, and in the first two pages thought the book was going to be brilliant, i was however swiftly shot down with my estimation.

A disappointing read.

My Opinion 2 STARS
**Provided by Netgalley and Berkley Trade for an honest review** for an honest review**

To be honest, this book was quite ordinary and i was kinda disappointed. The only real excitement came near the end of the book.

The plot was almost expected and follows the same as many other books. Boy meets girl, they get together, something happens to 'break' them up, one fights for the other and they get their happy ending.

Not a book that will suck you in or make you sit up into the early hours of the morning as you just have to finish it.

Angel's Flight (Angels' Pawn 0.5, Angels' Judgement 1.5, Angels' Wolf 4.5, Angels' Dance GUILD HUNTER) - Nalini Singh

The Book
A new Guild Hunter anthology featuring the long-requested print edition of Angels' Pawn; a reprint of Angels' Judgment (originally featured in theMust Love Hellhounds anthology); and a new novella, Angels' Dance, featuring Galen and Jessamy.

My Opinion  5 STARS
Angels Pawn #0.5:
A good story to introduce the relationship between Ashwini and Janvier. I loved how the two interacted and flirted a little with each other.

I would definitely loved to read more about them and so hope that they eventually get together.

Angel's Judgment #1.5:
The story of how Sara and Deacon met.

I would love me some Deacon. A large, lethal, protective male with a generous heart.

Sara. She may be little, but she radiates authority and sticks to her guns, always open for the truth and taking no bullshit.

Angel's Wolf #4.5
The story of Noel and Nimra.

After reading this sweet story i hope we get to see more of them. Noel with his protecivness of the angel, and nimra of her humanness and kindness and love of small fluffy animals.

Both bring the best out of each other and compliment the others strengths.

Angel's Dance #4.75
The Story of Jessamy, the scholar and angels teacher with Galen the blunt, fighting expert.

I love how possessive Galen can be even though he wants Jess to have everything she wants, even flying her around so that she can experience what her own wings cannot give her. Flight.

Galen pursuit of her opens her eyes to see that it has only been her closing herself off from others that has caused her to walk alone for so long.

Borrowed Ember (Fire Spirits 3) - Samantha Young

The Book
Everything in Ari’s life until this point has been borrowed.
Her human life with a man who wasn't her real father.
A love for a boy who needed more than her to be strong.
Kisses with a Jinn who refused to do anything but lend them out in moments of weakness.
And even her resolve, which seemed to fail her whenever she needed it most.

But Ari is done borrowing. She finally feels strong enough to make hunting Jinn not just a hobby to get her through her dismal situation, but to make hunting a permanent and necessary career. Her friendship with Charlie might finally make it onto real and steady ground if only she can save him from the trial on Mount Qaf. And her love for Jai could be eternal, if only she could gain control over the darkness of the Seal within her.

Ari believes all of this is doable. That finally she will truly own the relationships in her life and to a certain extent have ownership over her future.

But none of that matters when it isn't up to her…

…For high in the emerald mountains of Mount Qaf, the Sultan Azazil has been keeping secrets.
Even from the Jinn Kings.
Secrets that will change everything… and bring Ari to the crashing realization that once again…

… she’s borrowed something that will never truly belong to her.

Something that is desperate to be unleashed.
Something that could destroy them all.

My Opinion  4 STARS
This book ends on such a cliff hanger.

I'm glad that Jai and Ari are finally together and that they are taking things slowly, too many of the characters in young adult books seem to move really quickly.

I am really warming to Red, no that i didn't not like him before. I also like that we are seeing more of the other seven Jinn Kings and more so of Glass. I definitely see a relationship between him and Trey in the works.

Poor Ari hasn't really had the best luck since she turned eighteen. Considering how much has happened, she is holding together well, maybe she needs a little nervous breakdown like the rest of us would have if we were put in her position.

I greatly look forward to finding what happens next in this saga.

Scorched Skies (Fire Spirits 2) - Samantha Young

The Book
FEAR THE HEAT...

The White King has crossed the line, sounded the horn, sent out the wolves.

When blood is shed and life is lost the reality of Ari’s position as both hunter and prey finally sets in. It seems her father will stop at nothing to force her will to his own and distracted by Charlie’s latest mistake and her seemingly misguided attraction to Jai, Ari never thought to fear anyone else but the Jinn King.

Blindsided and attacked, Ari learns a new wolf has joined the hunt. A dark sorcerer believes he knows a way to bleed the power of the Seal and wield it as his own, and he is even less patient than The White King.

The War for the Seal has only just begun… and it’s time for Ari to turn it on its head.
It’s time for Ari to stop acting like the hunted.

It’s time for Ari to become the hunter.

My Opinion  4 STARS
I spent most of this book wanting to slap both Charlie and Jai over the head repeatedly for being so bloody thick and stupid.

I wanted to slap Charlie for holding his revenge over his brother more important than making a better decision. His quest and thirst for magic could and will only leave him in trouble. And where will it ultimately leave him?

I wanted to slap Jai as in most of this book Jai struggles to come to terms with his feelings for Ari. Why is it then things are almost too late that we realise what is in front of us and what we really want?

I am also interested to see where and why Ari is having these dreams. They have to be important and mean something. Is this part of her powers? Or is someone messing with her? My thinking and i could be completely off mark is that it has something to do with both Lilith and the Seal. Perhaps Lilith went into the making of the seal, hence the different parts, thereby the dreams are from Liliths memories or something (lots of speculating going on in my mind). At least the dreams are giving her a better idea of how the war started and perhaps a better incite as to the participants.

A brilliant second book and i can't wait to see what happens in book three.

Smokeless Fire (Fire Spirits 1) - Samantha Young

The Book
When eighteen year old Ari Johnson is transported from her bedroom into the chilling realm of Mount Qaf - home to the terrifying and mercurial Jinn - she learns a truth that rocks her very world. Suddenly her anxiety over college and her broken friendship with Charlie seem like small change compared to the war she now finds herself stuck in the middle of. Her unease isn’t lessened any by the hot guardian, Jai, who won’t stop following her around everywhere - a Jinn whose loyalty Ari hates to question but must. She has no idea who she can trust.

When the truth burns through her life in its determination to turn it to ashes, Ari will have to battle with ancient deadly creatures, epic family drama and heart-wrenching romantic entanglements.

My Opinion  4 STARS
So this book has been on my kindle for well over a year and boy am i glad i finally got round to reading it.

Ok, so I am so on team Jai.

Don't get me wrong but Charlie in this book acts more like a dufuss, only really being there for Ari when he realises what's at stake and possibly even more what she can do for him. It seems that Charlie has an ulterior motive, especially after being so excited to hear that myths can be true.

I like Jai. The emotionally troubled Jinn (though I think he would take offended at being called that). Jai does his best to keep his distant from Ari, but we all know something is bound to happen between them.

Ari is a strong individual who is just looking for the acceptance from her dad, then her world is thrown into chaos. Not only is she not human, but she is an object of power that could win the war between the ruling Jinn and their father.

A story well told and I can't wait to read the second book.

Breathe (Sea Breeze 1) - Abbi Glines

The Book
Sadie White's summer job isn't going to be on the beach life-guarding or working at rental booths like most kids her age. With her single mother's increasing pregnancy and refusal to work, Sadie has to take over her mother's job as a domestic servant for one of the wealthy summer families on a nearby island.

When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie hadn't spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house she might have been normal enough to be excited about working for a rock star.

Even though Sadie isn't impressed by Jax's fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax but he fights his attraction. Relationships never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can't breathe without Sadie.

My Opinion  3 STARS
This is a 'cute' book. Yes it does get cheesy at times and yes it can be predictable but it's sweet.

For my mind however they fell in love far too fast and it didn't feel right.

A sweet story all the same.

Crossing The Line (Pushing the Limits 1.5) - Katie McGarry

The Book
Katie McGarry captivated readers with her “riveting, emotional”* Young Adult debut, Pushing the Limits. In this gripping novella, she tells the story of Lila and Lincoln, who discover that sometimes it’s worth crossing the line for love…

Lila McCormick, Echo's best friend from Pushing the Limits, first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters—or that she’d fall for the boy she’s only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he’s never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila’s forgiveness—and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

My Opinion  4 STARS
I would have given this book five stars, but the story for Lincoln and Lila should have been longer in my mind, but the condensed version was still good.

Katie McGarry has the talent to bring across all the emotions needed to make a story feel real and believable. She is a wonderful story teller.

But the deeper she delves into the cause of his pain, the deeper she gets sucked into his chaos. Will Scarlett find the happiness she’s looking for, or will she be caught in Tucker’s aftermath?

My Opinion  5 STARS
This was a brilliant book.....and i got so sucked up into the story.

We have our painfully shy Scarlett who has put up major barriers to help cope with her past, along with our confused and lost Tucker who hides his true face from the world.

Right from the word go, both are able to see what everyone else can't. They are able to look into the others eyes and see, and know more than anyone ever has.

Both seem to have a calming effect on the other and don't lie just because the answer might hurt the other.

A book fraught with emotional tension and not to be missed.

This book is a soft romance that would be good for an afternoons reading in front of the fire, however both characters to me held a certain 'wetness' about them. Neither character seeming as strong as they should have done.

A pleasant enough book, but not a book that will stay with you after you have read it.

My favourite quotes from the book?
She sighed and lifted her hand to run it along the edge of his lip. "You want to stay here, in the employees quarters? Wouldn't you be a little out of place?"
"If you're here, it will be the Taj Mahal.

"Ah, Kate. You've bewitched me. You've turned me into a weak-kneed, bald-headed Samson, and I'm caught up in your spell. What are we going to do?"
"Max, as long as the rest of you works, we'll buy a wig."

This book has been republished and given a swanky new cover.

Kate seems to have taken more of the take charge male role whilst Matthew was given more of a following female role.

A nice story for someone who doesn't want to use any brain power to relax.

Honestly, how many mis-happenings can one lady have?? I'm a serial klutz and even that much doesn't happen to me all at once, though it does tend to go in threes.... hmmm.

This book has the fun factor and will make you smile and laugh at the mis-haps that happens to Magee and Justin.

A short, fun, flirty read brilliant for a holiday romance read.

Broken - Christa Cervone

The Book
According to Webster’s Dictionary the definition of the word Broken is violently separated into parts. SHATTERED.

Yup, that pretty much sums me up. How do I handle things? I find my answers at the bottom of a bottle of Tequila and sleep with random men.

How did I get this way? Well, four years ago I made a decision that cost me the love of my life. I can't undo what I did to drive Garrett out of my life. I haven't seen or heard from him in four long years. But he still haunts me in my dreams or should I call them nightmares at this point? No matter how much booze I drink and how many men I sleep with, nothing fills the void. I feel like I am existing but I’m not really living.

I’m trying to get my life back on track. Well that was until. . . . Garrett walked back into my life. His reappearance threw me into another tailspin.
How do I put the pieces of our broken hearts back together? All before he walks out of my life again... this time for good. Or am I simply destined to just be Broken?

My Opinion  4 STARS
I really wanted to give this book another star but I felt as if the ending let it down.

The book if about a girl and how she doesn't cope with the fact that the love of her life split from her 4 years previously.

At the beginning the book was gritty and captivating, the middle became soft and the ending was fluffy. Not quite what I was expecting.

Concealed (Concealed 1) - Sang Kromah

The Book
Release Date: 15 October 2011
Some believe that at birth, we’re each born with some sort of guardian angel attached to us, watching from afar, but never seen by the human eye. But they’re wrong. Truth is it’s not that simple. There are certain people, special people, born of this world and of the other, who need that extra protection…that extra guidance. They go their entire lives, unaware of the other world, and unaware of the existence of their own personal watcher that watches from afar. But what happens when fate takes a turn for the worse, and The One who needs the aid of a watcher more than anyone before her can’t be found to be protected?

Bijou Fitzroy is strange. With the chaotic and unwanted gift of being an empath, she has spent her entire life as a sheltered recluse, being homeschooled by her secretive overprotective grandmother, who never stays long enough in one location for Bijou to ever settle and make friends. Not only does she lack social skills, but her physical appearance is so ethereal that it beckons onlookers to look away before she has the chance to make eye contact. Oh, and things get even weirder. Besides the occasional tendency to see strange things that no one else seems to notice, sixteen-year-old Bijou has been plagued by semi-prophetic nightmares of strange creatures her entire life; yet she yearns for sleep, because it’s the only place she gets to see him…well sort of. No matter what Bijou dreams of, the faceless boy is always there like some sort of harbinger of danger, always watching, always waiting. And even though his coming always pre-empts chaos, she’s fallen in love with this boy without a face.

When Bijou and her grandmother move to Eldersburg and she starts to attend the local high school, she meets Sebastian Sinjin, a strange boy, who forces Bijou to question the world around her, and the grandmother she thought she knew. Bijou’s world begins to crumble as the creatures from her nightmares begin to take shape in her reality, the faceless boy becomes real, and town locals begin to disappear as she finds herself at the center of a war she never knew was being fought. Bijou has to stand alone and be the savior everyone expects her to be.

I honestly struggled to read this book and could not connect with either the writer or the characters.

Sadly to say that about half way through i had to give up on this book.

A great pity.
