REVIEW - Guarded (True Alpha #2) by Alisa Woods

The Book
Release Date: 2 September 2014
Goodreads Link

New Adult Paranormal Romance serial

THIS IS THE SECOND EPISODE OF SIX in the True Alpha serial.

Shifters live in the shadows of Seattle, just under the skin of the alpha male, dot-com entrepreneurs who are building a new Silicon Valley in the Emerald City.

As Lucas fights his instinctual attraction to Mia, focusing instead on guarding her and keeping her safe from the Red pack, Mia tries to discover the truth about Lucas’s dead mate.

Guarded (True Alpha 2) is 70 pages or 17,000 words. It’s the second of six episodes in the True Alpha serial.

My Opinion  3 STARS
Part two of this series is certainly a bit meatier in the fact that we learn more about Lucas and his late mate, but we also get to learn more about how the packs work in general.

Mia and Lucas have a steamy night together but Lucas insists that it can never happen again especially as a secret Mia has held close comes out.

The lust between them continues to crackle however and we find Lucas struggling to contain his urges.

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint…

He’ll show this good girl the thrill of being bad…

Good girl Melody Merritt is ready to be bad. Fresh out of an unsatisfying ten-year engagement to the town golden boy, she’s determined to make up for lost time. And who better to burn her sterling reputation to the ground than Bluelick’s sinfully sexy new fire chief whose wicked gaze promises complete and utter domination? Yes, please.

Corrupting the prim and proper Little Miss Bluelick is the most action Josh Bradley’s seen since he transferred from Cincinnati to fast-track his career. He won’t let anything or anyone—not even the delectable Melody Merritt—trap him in this Kentucky-fried Mayberry, but when their searing chemistry yields an unexpected result, he realizes he’s started a blaze that's completely beyond his control…

My Opinion  5 STARS
**My thanks to NetGalley and EntangledPublishing LLC, for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I really enjoyed this hot little book.

This is a kind of behind the scenes of book one where Ellie gets together with Tyler.

Melody who has just been released from a ten year engagement finds herself drawn to the new chief fireman Josh.

To be fair though with the way he has been looking at her and how long shes waited to feel like a woman who can blame her for going after what she wants.

The lust between them sizzles, but slowly becomes something more than they bargained for.

Ginny and Roger are wonderful friends for Melody and I really hope that Ginny gets her HEA. She deserves it.

REVIEW - Desired (True Alpha #1) by Alisa Woods

The Book
Release Date: 24 August 2014
Goodreads Link

New Adult Paranormal Romance serial

Shifters live in the shadows of Seattle, just under the skin of the alpha male, dot-com entrepreneurs who are building a new Silicon Valley in the Emerald City.

Mia is just a college girl trying to earn her business degree and dig out of the poverty she was born into—being a shifter is something she hides, hoping her secret won’t sabotage her dreams.

Lucas is a broken alpha, a wolf who lost his mate, his pack, and almost himself—he wasn’t looking to rescue a girl or start a pack war. But now he has to keep her safe or it won’t just be her life, but his whole family at risk… only his inner wolf can’t seem to keep its paws off a girl who has secrets of her own.

Desired (True Alpha 1) is 80 pages or 20,000 words and is the first of six TRUE ALPHA episodes.

My Opinion  3 STARS
**My thanks to NetGalley and Sworn Secrets Publishing for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This novella is the first of six that make up a whole book.

For a first time author the work was not bad, but it's not memorable.

This part mainly focuses on getting to know our main characters Mia and Lucas and giving us some background on them.

The insta-lust was predictable and the whole tug of war thing with their emotions was annoying, but the series does have promise.

BLOG TOUR (Review) - The Heart of Christmas (Whiskey Creek #7) by Brenda Novak

The Book
Release Date: 28 October 2014
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21942804-the-heart-of-christmas

Just call her Christmas Eve…
Eve Harmon has always enjoyed Christmas, but this year it reminds her of everything she doesn't have. Almost all her friends are married now, and that's what Eve wants, too. Love. A husband and kids of her own. But the B and B she manages, and even Whiskey Creek, the small Gold Country town where she was born and raised, suddenly seem…confining.
Eve's worried that her future will simply be a reflection of her past. There's no one in the area she could even imagine as a husband until a handsome stranger comes to town. Eve's definitely attracted to him, and he seems to have the same reaction to her. But his darkly mysterious past could ruin Eve's happily ever after just when it finally seems within reach. And just when she's counting on the best Christmas of her life!
My Opinion  4 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

All of the book in this series can be read as a stand alone as the author gives enough background on the other main characters without it telling too much from the other books. However I am still disappointed in the Cheyenne/Dylan sub plot.

I was not too sure if I liked Eve in previous books, but after reading her story you can see why she was finding things a little hard when all her friends are getting married and having kids around her. At 35 she is lonely and wants more out of life.

From the first page enters the man who is to change her future in more ways than she can imagine. Not only is he handsome, the man she wakes up to in her bed the morning after her drunken solo birthday drinks has an incredible amount of secrets he's been on the run from for years.

Rex has changed his name so many times and been on the run for so long and he's getting tired of it. However he just can't seem to stop himself going to Eve time and time again. He see's something in her he wants buts knows he can't have. However, their first night together many have had consequences.

All of Eve's friends play a part in trying to see that the man she is with is telling many lies and is not the man he says he is. She understands but see's something in him that they cannot see, and thinks that she could be the woman to help him.

The story has you guessing until the very end as to what is going to happen between them and we even get the truth as to what happened the the little girl who died at the B & B all those years ago and Ted investigates it for his new book.

I'm still looking forward to what will happen for Joe, Baxter, Kyle and Riley as they have yet to have their own HEA.

Keyboardist Kyle Cross may look like a bad boy with his tattoos and piercings, but he’s really the good guy who’s always stuck fixing his band’s problems and never gets the girl. His band is competing in a college Battle of the Bands, but when their bassist doesn't show, Kyle must track her down with the help of the person he least expects: his ex-girlfriend Alexis Monroe.

Kyle hasn’t seen Alexis since she dumped him in high school, and she’s dropped her preppy image for fiery red hair and a bold new attitude to match. With only hours before his band goes on stage, Kyle has to be a little bad if he wants to win both the Battle and the girl he's never gotten over. But when their old problems resurface, the good guy might just get his heart broken all over again.

EXCERPT
Alexis stood alone in front of the bar, watching the band on stage. Her leather jacket had been left in her car, and in her tight jeans and tiny, V-necked top, she radiated a cool, sexy confidence I found irresistible. She’d had that same confidence when we were younger, too, but now it had an edge, like she wasn’t afraid to be herself. It made me want her even more.
I moved behind her, fitting myself against her back, and whispered her name in her ear. I didn’t need to say anything else. She turned her head and met my eyes with a look of desire that matched my own. Her hand reached up to circle my neck, drawing my head down to hers, and I gave in to her siren call.
Our lips touched for the first time in three years. It was everything I remembered and more. Like waking from a long coma. A bright sunrise over a dark sky. The first hint of spring after a long winter. I was truly living again, in the way I normally only felt when I was on stage.
The kiss started slow, an awakening, an exploration, a forgiveness of our past mistakes. I teased at her mouth with my own, opening her wider, wanting more, wanting everything. Her lips were amazingly soft and sweet, like candy I’d tasted long ago and had finally rediscovered. I wrapped my arms around her hips, holding her flush against me. She groaned and dug her fingers into the back of my hair, pulling me even closer.
She turned in my arms to face me. “I guess this means you’re giving me a second chance.”
“I guess it does.” I lowered my lips to hers again.
Our bodies fit together perfectly, like when we’d hugged except this time we didn’t hold back. I slid my hands down to cup her butt, pressing her against the front of my jeans. Our kiss deepened, mouths hungry for each other, bodies desperate to be together again. We couldn’t get close enough, couldn’t get enough of each other. She clung to me like I was her savior, and I kissed her harder, flicking my tongue across hers, nibbling at her lower lip. Her fingers gripped the top of my jeans and tugged on them, like she wanted them gone. If she kept this up, I would rip her clothes off and take her right there on the bar counter.
This was all moving so fast, but I didn’t care. This was exactly the kind of thing my brother did, and after being apart from Alexis for so long, I didn’t want to go slow.
“Let’s go to my car,” she said, breathless. “The backseat…”
“My thoughts exactly.”
We broke apart, and the rest of the club came into focus again. The crowd pressing around us in the dark. The clink of bottles behind the bar. The music blasting from the speakers. The lights illuminating the band on stage. I checked the time. About an hour before our set. No one would miss me if I slipped out for a few minutes.
I took Alexis’s hand, the action so familiar I could almost believe we’d never broken up. She gave me a knowing smile and let me lead her through the club, weaving between other couples and head-banging fans. I couldn’t get us out of there fast enough. My brain had shut off and my body had taken over, with only lust and primal urges controlling me now.

This might only last one night. I didn’t care. I’d take one night with Alexis. As long as I reminded myself it was just sex and nothing more, I’d be fine. If Jared could do it, so could I.

REVIEW - Just One Spark (Just One... #1) by Jenna Bayley-Burke

The Book
Release Date: 7 October 2014
Originally Published May 5th 2006 by Mills & Boon

"Once the flame is ignited, there s no escaping the heat."

"Just One, Book 1"

Hannah Daniels reads steamy romance novels so she can forget her lack of a personal life and the fact that the one time in her life she took a risk on love, her heart was left in pieces. Her busy schedule means she reads whenever she can make time. Like at the laundromat while sitting on top of a washing machine.

Mason McNally has waited his whole life for a woman who stirs his soul. When he finds her, she s nose-deep in a racy paperback, perched atop a vibrating washing machine. Her beauty, boldness and raw sensuality definitely stir something in Mason. But there s a problem. He s forgotten he s wearing a wedding ring.

No amount of hasty explanations that it s for his brother s psychology experiment keeps her from disappearing. Now he s consumed with finding her again and convincing her that her first impression was wrong, and their spark of attraction is oh so right.

This book has been previously published.

Warning: Contains a meddling psychologist brother, an overbearing brother-in-law, a creepy ex-boyfriend, a romance-writing group with a vivid imagination, a stalker with a Hallmark obsession, a hairless dog named Monkey, and a knight in fire-polished armor."

My Opinion  4 STARS

**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Samhain Publishing for an honest review**

This was a lovely read and I really could not help but fall in love with Firefighter Mason McNally.

Hannah is a hard working woman, who's parents have really old fashioned values and tend to put her down a bit.  She is a nearly thirty year old single woman how has been burned twice by failed relationships.  Her last relationship her friends and family intervened and found out that he was a married man with kids.

Hannah is of course slightly screwed up, but when Mason first sets his eyes on Hannah it's love at first sight for him.  Mason will do anything and everything in his power to overcome Hannah's problems and make her his.

We get a stalker, a possessive but sweet man in love, nutty friends and family and true ups and down in the relationship.

Really enjoyed reading this and the story went far too fast for me.  A perfect weekend read.

BLOG TOUR (Excerpt) - Profile (Social Media #5) & COVER REVEAL - Home (Social Media #6) by J.A. Huss

The Book
Release Date: 22 October 2014

All the best fairytale princesses have the most horrific pasts. Mine just happens to be more horrific than most.

Fantasizing over Vaughn Asher was a dream. Meeting Vaughn Asher was a fairytale. Loving Vaughn Asher was my downfall.

The past is always there. Waiting. Waiting to expose you. Waiting to ruin you. Waiting to take you back.

Sometimes not even a prince can save you.

Excerpt
The shouting starts as I exit, but I just flip my sunglasses down and push right through them. I’ve been doing this for twenty-seven years. Some encounters have been more stressful than others, but I’m not the kind of movie star who punches out photographers. They are making a living. Yeah, they are parasites who make a living off me, but fuck it. I really have no beef with them. In fact, most of them are nice when they’re not stalking you.
But then I see that bitch from Buzz Hollywood. She steps right in front of me and sticks that microphone in my face. “What will Jasinda think when she finds out you’re cheating on her?”
I actually stop to laugh. Ray grabs my forearm and tugs, trying to get me moving again. But I shrug him off. “I hope,” I tell the reporter as I look her in the eye, “she feels ashamed of herself. Jasinda”—I am facing the camera now, so I address her directly—“you’re a lying bitch. If you’re even pregnant, I’m up for a DNA test any time you are. I have a wife now and her name is Grace Kinsella-Asher.” And then I turn back to look at all of them as they hover close behind me. “And now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to get her a coffee and a muffin. Blueberry,” I add. “Grace likes blueberry. And she likes iced tall sugar-free caramel, nonfat, light ice, Starbucks double shot on ice. At least”—I stop to have a chuckle—“when she has money on her Starbucks app, she does.”
“Does she have money on her app, Vaughn?” a reporter from an internet blog asks me.
He’s nice, and funny. And never too serious about what he prints. “Her coffee worries are over, yes.”

Now they chuckle with me and I turn away and start walking down the street to the Starbucks. Half of them follow, but they stay behind me. Like a little train of leeches—annoying, but harmless.
See, this is how you handle the media. You don’t have to give them what they want, you just have to give them something they can use. Now they have two factoids about Grace to run with. Tomorrow everyone will be drinking that coffee concoction and the blueberry muffins will be sold out.
The day after tomorrow, they will be after the personal details of someone else and no one will give a shit about us until the next movie comes out, or I get nominated for an award, or Grace gets pregnant.
God. that makes me smile like an idiot and when I look over at Ray, he’s shaking his head. “What?” I ask him.
He holds up a hand. “Nothing.”
We turn right at 16th Street and head down towards the Starbucks.
“But,” he continues, “you have a stupid grin on your face. And if I didn’t know better, I’d say you are in love.”
“I am in love.” I let out a breath. “I love this girl. I’m gonna marry her again and get her pregnant, and spend the rest of my life bossing her ass around and pissing her off.” I glance back at Ray. “She likes it. But she also likes to fight it.”

“Mmm-hmm. If you say so, boss.”

Excerpt
Ranger stood at the counter, his broad shoulders and muscled biceps on display. His low but rich, deep voice filled the air, traveling the distance to the table and teasing her nerve-endings. The young girl at the counter giggled and then shrugged as she snapped lids on two paper coffee cups. Tess chuckled under her breath. Flirt. Ranger picked up the cups and then headed toward her, his trademark cocky smirk on his handsome face. Mesmerized by the picture of pure male sauntering her direction, Tess caught a flash of something on his arm, peeking from beneath the cuff of his t-shirt. Something black that she only saw once when he made a certain movement. She watched closely as he placed the cups on the table and then sat opposite her, curious when she didn’t see the mark again. “Do you have a tattoo?” Since she was fairly confident in her observation, she expected a quick admission. Instead, he raised his eyebrows. “Were you checking me out?” “No, I just noticed something on your arm. Either you have a major bruise, or you have a tattoo.” “You were checking me out.” “Okay, fine. Yes, I was checking you out.” She leaned forward and squinted at his right biceps. “Do you have a tattoo or not?” “Do you?” Although his avoidance somewhat irritated her, she found it extremely arousing. Two could play his game. She leaned back in her chair, crossed her legs, and raised an eyebrow. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” “Yes.” “Maybe.” “You show me yours, I’ll show you mine.”

My Opinion  3 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This book can be read as a stand alone, however I do think it would help if you read the other books first to get the other characters histories.

Its a sweet book that it very clean and has a great mix of friends and partners.

Tess is a math whiz and socialite and Ranger is the newest Seal Inc member.

Both fall into instant lust at first sight, however I loved that they kept you guessing as to who the villian was.  The only negative point I would have is that we were not given any reason as to why the crime was committed.

A great read.

REVIEW - Burn (Dragon Souls #2) by Penelope Fletcher

The Book
Release Date: 17 January 2014
Goodreads Link

Something deadly lurks beneath the surface of Marina's skin, a wildness, a magickal creature born from fire and ice. After crossing dimensions to the fiery land of dragons, where not only is she a princess, but descendant from one of the most powerful dragons in existence, Marina has chosen to enter the tournamnet Aver to win the Frost Wreath.

She must face four deadly quests to be crowned queen of the Ice Realm, and to win the right to hunt Koen Raad, her dragon mate. Between assassination attempts, the growing darkness in her adopted son, and the deadly quests of Aver itself, Marina's chances of survival grow dimmer by the day.

My Opinion  4 STARS
Even though there were some awful grammatical errors the main bulk of this story was really good.

Marina is still a feisty character who is going after what she wants and trains hard in order that she can get through the tasks asked of her.

There are a few stumbling blocks along the way and it doesn't take long before I start not liking Daniil after he was so nice in the first book.

This book although it has a cliff hangar ending does not end any where as abruptly as the first book, but I am annoyed at how long Marina has obviously waited to do something.

As this book took SOOOO long to come out after the first, I have no hope of the author producing book three within the next year.

REVIEW - Nanny for the Millionaire's Twins (First Time Dads! #2) by Susan Meier

The Book
Release Date: 1 November 2012
Goodreads Link

She can handle twin babies, but can she handle the boss? As the new nanny for Chance Montgomery, Tory Bingham is looking after his adorable twins. But although she's taking diaper-changing and sleepless nights in her stride, nothing can prepare Tory for being around the twins' breathtakingly handsome daddy....

Five years ago, Tory's dreams were stolen from her in a horrific accident, but as she becomes a part of Chance's family she faces a heart-wrenching decision-dare she let go of the past and start to hope she can be happy again...?

My Opinion  3 STARS
I read this book as I am about everything twins at the moment as I am expecting twins myself.

I liked the angst that Tory has, the fact that she is still loyal her the fiance that has been in a coma for the last five years.

Xxx was also a good character but seemed to get over his ex fast enough with Tory as the new nanny.

At times the story went fast and at others a little slow, but the ending was sweet.

The Book
Release Date: 7 October 2014

Fairies Raea and Kyne are regretting their night of passion. What were they thinking? They try to promise it will never happen again, but of course they are totally hot for each other, and it takes every ounce of will-power they both have to keep their lust under control. Desperate to escape the council, they retreat to a cabin deep in the mountains. For now they are hidden, and safe from all the intrigue. Secluded in a haven of their own, passion takes over, and they at last are able to fully give in to their desire. They have no secrets from one another and know that whatever is to come, they will face it together.

My Opinion  3 STARS

**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for an honest review**

As this novella continues after book 1 it should really be labeled as book 1.5.

The novella is full of romance, passion and lust and tends to create more questions than it answers.  I really hope book 2 answers some of those questions.

My Opinion  3 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Its taken my head a few days to get round writing a review for this book, mainly because at about 80% in a really good book took a swift downhill turn, and suddenly I felt like I had lost something.

Honor is a very talented country singer who gave up the limelight after having been attacked on stage 10 years ago leaving her with a scar on her face. She is now fairly shy and works in a music shop.

Jed is a big country star who hears her song on the radio and decides he wants her on tour with him. He pursues her, but also helps her and looks out for her best interests.

As you can imagine things go well between them and they fall in love, telling secrets about themselves they have held back. However Honor does not want to hear Jed's as she trusts him.

Thats. Thats where the story suddenly tuns to pot. Jed's secret comes out in the media and Honor finds out from a journalist and things break apart, and both characters act like utter children. After what they had been through I was so disappointed in this. It almost left me feeling betrayed by the author for handling the ending in this way.

The Book
Release Date: 7 October 2014

Callie Brewster didn’t figure she’d ever see Finn O’Donnell again when they parted company in Afghanistan. But when her little brother witnesses a killing, everything changes. The government says they’ll put him in witness protection, but Callie doesn’t trust anyone to protect her brother—except for Finn O’Donnell.

All Finn wants for Christmas is some peace and quiet on his newly purchased ranch. But he owes Callie Brewster his life, and he always repays a debt. Now there’s a woman in the house who joined the army to get away from ranching, a boy who is scared of his shadow, and a feud going on amongst the other ranchers. Yet in the midst of all the chaos, Finn is happier and more at peace than he’s ever been before…

My Opinion  5 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and the Sourcebooks Casablanca for an honest review**

This was a really sweet read about two former colleagues who reconnect when her nephew needs to go somewhere safe after witnessing a murder.

Callie was Finn's spotter for six years and they already know each other inside out and they always has a thing for each other but knew that they could not act on it when they were in service.

The sparks fly right from the beginning with these two, simple little touches here and there, a flirtatious word, and tiny little kisses started by Finn.

I loved the introduction of Vergie and thought she was a wonderful woman , and I loved than Finn was such a sweetheart in adding so very and quickly to his new extended family.

Really looking forward to Sawyers book and to see what else the Gallagers and Brennans get up to next in their family feuds.

@VaughnAsher - Dabbing lips with a napkin. #ThatAllYouGot?

Finally... Grace sees me in a different light. The banter is flirty, the sex is fun, and the future looks fabulous. I just hope she feels the same way when she finds out what I did.

EXCERPT
When I look over at her, she’s twisting her hair, her eyes are wide and expectant, and her breathing is faster than it was. She’s nervous. “Is there any doubt in your mind which one I want more?”
She points to the computer in my lap. “Tell them, not me.”
“You need reassurances?” She nods but lets the question hang there. “You want a public declaration, just like I wanted a public submission?”
She nods again. “I don’t want to be your secret.”
“You’re not a secret. We’re tweeting as ourselves. Everyone can see it.”
“I don’t want to be your servant, either.”
“It’s a joke, sweets. Since when do you take it so seriously, anyway? You never took it seriously on the island. And you have to admit, I’ve been so much better since we came back to our real lives. I’ll stop with the jokes if you want, but that’s all it was. Am I calling you girl? Are you calling me Master? No. We’re in a different phase now, can’t you tell?”
“I…” She exhales and closes the laptop. “I’m not sure. I’m not sure what I’m doing. I need to go home. I’m really confused, to be honest. I mean, so much is going on outside this sanctuary. I’m worried about the fallout. I’m worried about my job. I’m worried about… you. And me. And I have to admit, you’re so much closer to the dream guy I envisioned now, it scares me.”
“Why?” I laugh, but I don’t mean it as a joke. I just don’t understand where she’s coming from.
“God, are you really that oblivious? Do I really need to spell out having your parents murdered, your life ripped apart, and the feelings that leaves behind?”
I close my laptop too, then put it aside. I stand up and scoot over to her lounge, moving her over and wrapping her up in my arms all in the same gesture. I place her on top of me, her head leaning on my chest. “I didn’t mean it that way, Grace. At all. I was just playing with you.”
“I know, but I have a hard time understanding when the game stops.”
“The game is over. I won. You’re mine.”
“That’s caveman talk, Asher.”
“Yeah. But it’s true. And it’s simple. I don’t think it requires explaining. But if you need it explained, Grace, I’m in love. I love you. It’s not even difficult for me to say, it’s easy. And if you need me to go online right now and say it in a tweet, fuck yeah. I’ll do it.”
“No, that’s not what I meant. Not really. You say I’m yours, but I don’t feel like yours.”
“Aww.” I squeeze her a little tighter because my heart hurts a little with her admission. “I’m gonna have to make you feel like mine, then?”
“Yeah,” she says in a pouty voice.
“Mmmmm, that I can totally do. Should we go out tonight? It’s not a good idea. The paparazzi will be on you for a while and I’ll probably end up in a fight if they get too close. But I’m happy to take you out.”
She thinks about this for a while and I let her take her time, just stroking her hair and relaxing. Enjoying what we have.
“It really doesn’t scare you?”
“What, sweets?”
“Losing.”
I huff out some air though my nose. “What should I be afraid of losing?”
“Me,” she says with an incredulous tone.
