Can a cupcake café owner find true love with Mr. Hot Holt Barbecue?

Although this book is part of a series, you can totally read it was a stand alone like i did.

Kayla looks after the local restaurant in Blossom Falls and Holt is best friends with one of her two friends fiancee.  Having met once before where they traded barbs with each other, however Holt has returned a few weeks from Drake and Sarina's wedding only to find that he has been dumped by his fiancee via text and it is Kayla that.  Kayla is the one who finds out first and is there when he needs her.

The romance is fairly sweet and only has light kissing, whoever the feelings run deep even though they both have to get over hurts by their exe's and it is Kayla's path that holds them back the most.

There are good supportive friends and family and Kayla and Holt are embraced by all and helped along when they have doubts, especially Kayla as she is the one holding her relationship back with Holt and her own self doubts from being in a bad relationship with another chef.

This book is a lovely read and was really good on a blustery autumn/fall day.

REVIEW - It was Always You: A Small Town Love Story (Magnolia Valley Book 7) by Cora Reed

The Book
Release Date: 24 September 2019
Goodreads Link

Simon McCoy can’t forget Margot Banks and the summer they became friends and, almost something more. But then she stood him up and got back together with her boyfriend.
He needs a girlfriend…
Simon McCoy overheard Margot Banks claiming he’s her boyfriend and lawyer. A gentleman wouldn’t take advantage of her embarrassment.
But Simon isn’t a gentleman. Especially where she’s concerned. He makes her a deal. He’ll be her lawyer, if she’ll be his date to his sister’s wedding.
Margot is the one that got away, and this time Simon is going to catch her. A few weeks will get her out of his system. If what his exes say is true, he doesn’t have a heart to lose.
The problem with his plan? He realizes that maybe his heart was Margot’s years ago and he’s looking for more than a fling. As much as he knows about seducing women, that’s how little he knows about having a real relationship.
She needs a lawyer…
After a disastrous marriage, Margot’s done with fairy tales. She just wants to make a decent life for her son. But when her philandering ex-husband decides he wants custody of their son, she needs a knight in shining armor (with a law degree).
And Simon McCoy steps up.
There’s a problem with this simple and mutually beneficial arrangement. When Simon kisses her, he reawakens more than just her passion. He makes her want a life that’s better than just decent. But trusting anything, even her own heart, feels impossible.
If they want a chance for a fairy-tale ending together then they’ll have to battle the demons in their pasts and fight for their happily-ever-after.
Can this fake relationship lead to a real-life fairy-tale ending?
This book is the seventh book in the MAGNOLIA VALLEY series. It can be read as a standalone or as part of a larger story line.

My Review  5 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

We first got an introduction to this book in the previous book and although some of the action can be understood from previous books, this book can still be read as a stand alone.

Margot's ex-husband is suddenly wanting to change the custody agreement and no is trying intimidation and nasty things to get Teddy with him more often, but only to the fact that his new girlfriend has a son and Teddy would probably end up babysitting quite a bit.  One person that he detests is Simon, a man who punched him when he deserved it.

Simon and Margot had a thing together when they were younger for a few weeks, until Margot did not turn up one day.  Simon never got over Margot and although Margot moved one, she left part of her heart behind with Simon.

Fifteen years later with Margot divorced and needing help, Simon overhears a conversation that changes their lives forever.  Simon needs a date to his sisters wedding and Margot needs a lawyer.

These are two wonderful characters with strong spines and both realise that it is not only time to move on, but are stronger with the other at their sides.

I loved the happy ending and cannot wait to see how Amelia and Sebastian get together with their HEA.

REVIEW - Matter of Time (Heat Wave #5) by Alannah Lynne

The Book
Release Date: 21 April 2015
Goodreads Link

Some might think the phrase, “you complete me” is a just cheesy line from the movies, but Lizbeth Sanders knows better…

In MATTER OF TIME, Lizbeth has spent the past fifteen years desperately searching for someone to fill the void left by Logan Steele’s disappearance from her life. However, rather than finding love and happiness, all she’s found is disappointment, heartache, and an ever-present longing for the man she can never have.

Fifteen years ago, Logan Steele left the woman he loved to marry his high school sweetheart and be a father to the child he didn’t know he had. He’s always tried to do the honorable thing, to be a good husband and a great father, but despite his sacrifices and best efforts, the shaky foundation of his marriage crumbles and falls apart.

When his identical twin surprises him with a reintroduction to Lizbeth, Logan feels like he’s been given a second chance—at life and love. But a lot can change in fifteen years, and after hurting her so badly the first time, building trust isn’t just hard, it’s nearly impossible—especially when duty and obligation pulls him away again.

My Review  4 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and the Author for an honest review**

Although this book is the end of a series it can certainly be read as a stand alone book.  I have not read the other books since 2016.  I could follow the story without getting lost and any other characters from previous books were only there briefly or barely mentioned.

Logan and Lizbeth got together in college and only got into a relationship when his on and off again relationship with Bobbi Jo finished.  They were everything to each other and were discussing the future when everything changes for the pair when Logan and his twin brother Lucas go home for a holiday.

Fifteen years later, Lucas meets Lizbeth and discovers she is unmarried and arranges for the pair to meet again, after getting over the shock the pair get talking and things turn in the direction that Logan has always wanted, however an event back home has the potential to pull them apart again.

With Logans determination that he finally wants something for him, the relationship continues and Lizbeth proves that her love for Logan knows no bounds and she is will move across the country to be with him.

Its a lovely story of a couple coming back together despite all the odds and finding a true chance of happiness.

REVIEW - Say It Again (First Wives #5) by Catherine Bybee

The Book
Release Date: 24 September 2019
Goodreads Link

In the final First Wives novel by New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee, falling in love could become the most dangerous dare of one woman’s life.

Protector-for-hire Sasha Budanov is accustomed to life as a loner. Always on the move, she’s now reached a crossroad. Looking for answers about her shadowy youth, she’s returned to the strict boarding school in Germany where she was raised. It’s also where she was trained in the stealthy, militarized art of survival. But behind its gleaming gates, Richter is a fortress of secrets, including those buried in Sasha’s mysterious past. To uncover them, she’s clinging to her first rule of defense: stay guarded.

If anyone can challenge Sasha’s rules, it’s devilishly sexy stranger AJ Hofmann. He wants answers, too. And he needs Sasha’s help. The recent deaths of several of Richter’s former students—including AJ’s own sister—have aroused his suspicions. He’s arousing something more in Sasha. Never one to surrender to her emotions, she senses something tempting in AJ. She trusts him. He’s fearless. And he kisses like a demon. Sasha’s found her match.

But treading Richter’s dark halls—and following their hearts—has its risks. As the decades-old secrets of the past are mined, Sasha and AJ are falling deeper in love…and into danger.

My Review  5 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Montlake Romance for an honest review**

I am so sad that this is the very last book of this series and that with Sasha we wrap up the first wives club and we get to see a lot more action with Sasha actually asking for help and getting more than she bargained for.

I loved getting more on Sasha and what has made her the woman that she is today and how she is so able to help others, but not ask of expect help herself.

AJ is a perfect match for Sasha.  A car thief so he has that hint of trouble and he is good at pressing the right buttons with Sasha and gets closer to her faster than anyone before him.

I did like how Claire was introduced and added a new dynamic to the series and to also giving more clues and help with Sasha's way of growing up and the mystery as to who is working with the bad guy.

This is very much a must read and i can imagine that i will be reading it again.

REVIEW - Marked (Dark Protectors #7) by Rebecca Zanetti

The Book
Release Date: 22 December 2014
Goodreads Link

Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life…

Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice…

My Review  5 STARS
This book is the culmination of the story and it really  does not disappoint.  We get all of the answers that we were looking for, along with new twists and turns that we were not looking for.

I have been looking forward to Janie's story since i first started the series and it really packs in all the action and all the feels that the previous books have and more.

Janie has been in all the books and we have watched as she has grown up and become of age and shown a great strength of character and determination to not only see her fate through, but to help her family and to see the war other with a happy ending.

Her Janie finally meets Zane, the boy from her dreams and she gets to meet Kalin again in the flesh.  Janie and Zane have the connection right from the go and we just know that they are meant to be together and the meeting is a pure shock to Janie and their coming together is explosive too.

I loved the triangle and the way that Suri is finally killed, i certainly did not see that happening, i also loved how Janie gains a bigger family and that we get more than one epilogue with an idea that more books could come with Hope and other new members.

I look forward to seeing what happens with the others at some point and will be looking at reading the spin off series with the Realm Enforcers books.  They too look like they will be a guaranteed awesome read.

**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Kensington Books for an honest review**

We have seen lots of Prophet Lily and Caleb in previous books and i am so glad that they get to have a happy ever after, especially as Lily was only mated for two weeks three hundred years ago.  A long time for her to be celibate.

Caleb was perfect for lily and knew just how to push her buttons so the fire in her personality came out which does eventually end up being a good thing.  After this book i am really looking forward to seeing how things pan out in Janie's book and how the whole war ends up finishing and the factions end up.

REVIEW - Shadowed (Dark Protectors #6) by Rebecca Zanetti

The Book
Release Date: 3 October 2013

Jase Kayrs was the fun brother. The warm, charming, easy-going brother of the vampire leaders. Until he was taken and tortured by demons with their evil mind tricks for nearly five years. Upon his return, he’s dark, violent, and not the man they all thought they knew. Not the man he once was. He’s haunted that the only reason the demons would have let him live was to use him as a weapon against his family—but he can’t figure out when or how he’ll explode. Plus, once again the demons are after Jase with a vengeance…or rather, a female demon he rejected is out to destroy him.

Then the king asks Jase for a favor… a big one. To mate with one of their allies in order to save her. She’s everything that’s good and light in the world… while he’s at home with darkness. Yet he agrees… knowing mating may be the only chance to save them both.

My Review  5 STARS
**Copy Provided by Netgalley and Kensington Books for an honest review**

Oh. My. Goodness.

I have been waiting for Jace's story and it has not disappointed.  This is a book in a series with a story line that is building from the first book, so cant be read as a stand alone.

Tortured Jace finally finds his chance to save Brenna Dunne, Moira's sister and the woman that kept him alive in his darkest hour with her paintings.  Brennan was poisoned five years ago and no longer has much time before she dies.  She was also born during a special event, and that event is due to happen in only a matter of weeks, an event that has been predicted.

Both end up helping each other and Jace finds a new normal with Brenna, one he thought had gone from his life.  More characters perish, battles are fought and you will have your heart in your hands as you follow the characters to what is becoming close to the end of the war and Janie's role in all of this.

I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to see where everything leads.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I really enjoyed this book and the fact that this is the authors debut book is really something.

The mystery winds all through the book and i was completely unable to pin-point the culprit and the chemistry between Carla and Simone was really good.

The only problem that i had was that there was no epilogue to tie up a few loose ends.  Yes we get that Carlos goes to get his girl and they will probably move to Italy, however and epilogue saying what happened to Liz and Ross would have been really good along with Simone and Carlos settled in Italy.

I loved the cast of characters and this book focused on the issues of poaching and the problems it has.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I really struggled with this one.  It is a sweet sexy read, however it did very little for me and i felt that the ending of the book felt a little rushed.

The story is set over a week and very much has that instal-love thing going on that just fell a little flat for me, i'm not just sure if its the authors writing style, or that i just was not really in the mood for the book.

The location of the setting is lovely and it tackles with the issue of poaching, i just don't think i really got the chemistry between them.

I feel bad as there is nothing fundamental wrong with the book, i just did not connect with it.

REVIEW - Take It Off the Menu (Mile High Matched #3) by Christina Hovland

The Book
Release Date: 23 August 2019
Goodreads Link

Saying “I Do” has never been such a mess.

Marlee Medford just got dumped. Yes, things have become ho-hum in her longtime relationship, but she was two days away from walking down the aisle with the man she thought was her forever when he called it off. Convincing herself that they’d be able to reignite their spark once the wedding craziness settled? That was easy. Suddenly finding herself without a fiancĂ©? Not so much. Marlee needs to regain control of her life, and a weekend away with her friends is a solid first step.

One of Denver’s best up-and-coming chefs, perpetual bachelor Eli Howard, isn’t into serious relationships—especially the kind that ends in marriage. As if to prove his point that they aren’t worth the trouble, the wedding he was supposed to be catering just fell apart. Feeling oddly protective of the jilted bride—his little sister’s best friend—his weekend plans now involve a trip to Sin City with her group of friends. But it looks like he had a bit too much fun in Vegas when he wakes up married…wedding night included.

Marlee’s attempts at getting her life back together are failing miserably. Her ex-fiancĂ© is taking the house, her chihuahua is intent on a love affair with Eli’s sneakers, and she’s now accidentally hitched to the guy who can't even say the word marriage. With their quickie annulment denied, Eli and Marlee just have to hang tight until the divorce goes through. It’s just a little divorce amongst friends, what’s the worst that could happen?

Take It Off the Menu is book three of the Mile High Matched series, but stands alone and can be read in any order. If you love a hunky caterer and an accidental marriage, this book is for you! Buy now for a fun, friends-to-lovers romance!

My Review  5 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Finally we get Eli's story and what a story it is.  We got a slight taste of it in the previous book, however Marlee and Eli are a brilliant match.

Marlee and Eli have know each other for many years as she is one of his sisters best friends and he has had to bail them out from trouble many times in the past.

However after Marlee's fiancee dumps her two days before their wedding he and her friends turn up to pack her things before an impromptu holiday to vegas.  Eli only goes along in order to make sure he is there when the trouble arises, unfortunately with a game of dare and having drunk far too much, both Marlee and Eli find out the next morning that they got married to each other.

Marlee is a vert strong woman and sticks up for what she wants and she has a lovely heart, she makes more new friends that are true to her, rather than to her money and she shows Eli that a relationship is is as bad as he thinks.

I enjoyed the crazy in this book, Babushka and her antics and everything about this book.  I cannot wait to see Sadie and Romans story.

I was also none the wiser, falling hopelessly and irrevocably in love with him as the years went by.
Just as they hoped I would.

I’d always been drawn to the girl, innocently enough at first…until that vile abomination marked her with his stamp, unleashing a sense of propriety I had no rights to.
Didn’t matter—he had her...and I wanted her.

I thought my time had come, but the road to owning Tinksley’s heart comes with a price.
A price so dark and depraved it strips her of her purity and awakens the beast within.
