REVIEW - Hard Rock Tease by Athena Wright

The Book
Release Date: 30 December 2016

Rock god Noah Hart needs inspiration. And he's choosing me as his muse.

In my darkest days, I found solace in the words of rock star god Noah Hart. He saw into my heart. And I saw into his. Even though we'd never met, I felt as if I knew the man behind the music.

Then I met him.

Noah isn't a wounded poet. He's a jerk.

He's abrasive, cutting, and guarded as hell. He says people are selfish. He says we're only out for ourselves. He refuses to trust. He refuses to let anyone in.

I'm supposed to be helping him write a song. I'm supposed to be his confidant.

But the only time we connect is when we take to his bed. Noah plays my body as skillfully as he plays the piano. He makes me feel things I've never dreamed of.

And that includes heartache.

The man behind the music is nothing like I imagined. Who exactly is this Noah Hart I've met, and what the hell happened to my soulful, romantic poet?

Contains mature themes.

My Review    4 STARS
This is the first book that I had read/listened to by this author.

I really enjoyed the story, although I did get a little annoyed at Noah and they way he constantly pushed Jen away, even the way he would keep his friends at arms length.

Jen needs to help Noah create a song, however she feels in order to do that she needs to get him to open up to her and trust her, but things are never really easy with Noah and opening up is hard.  Jen also eventually opens up to Noah as well and she constantly lets him know how his words have always affected her with his bands songs.

Some good characters and I would certainly be up to visiting the rest of this series at some point.

My Review    3 STARS
I struggled with this audible book mainly because I really could not get on with the female narrators voice.  Each time it came on, I all but turned off.

I'm sure I may well have liked the other book, therefore I rated the book higher than I would have for the audio version.  Will have to try this book as an ebook to see if I like it better that way.

REVIEW - Polar Bared (Kodiak Point #3) by Eve Langlais

The Book
Release Date: 4 November 2014

Anti-Hero, BIG Bear Romance and USA Today Bestseller

What’s a bear to do when a human has a polar-izing effect?

Gene only has one thing on his mind, vengeance, until Vicky crashes into his life.

When Vicky accidentally slides into the side of a polar bear, she doesn’t expect to fall in love. Eaten yes, perhaps used as a chew toy, but become the object of a bear’s affection and lust?

Crazy! Almost as crazy as the fact the polar bear turns out to be a man. A sexy man. A man who growls, and roars and does everything he can to chase her away.

Only to come back.

Poor Gene. After the pain and betrayal he suffered in the war all he wants is vengeance against the brothers who left him behind. But he’s confused when instead of wanting to punish him for his evil acts, they offer him forgiveness.

As if that weren’t annoying enough, the cutest geek he ever met—with caramel kissed skin covering a lush, rounded figure and wearing the sexiest dark rimmed glasses—won’t leave him alone. Or more like, he can’t seem to stop following her.

And it isn’t just because someone is out to hurt her.

He wants her. But does he want her more than vengeance?

My Review    4 STARS
In this audible book we have Gene feeling sorry for himself and hiding from the man who would have hit killed.  There in hiding he finds Vicky.  A woman that someone is trying to kill, but she does not have a clue who would want her dead.

Gene ends up saving her twice while she is on her expedition to find polar bears, eventually having to get the hell out of dodge as hire killers are after her again.

As the pair spend time in close contact, Gene has something else to worry about, but he is always saying that he is not good enough for her.  Does he finally want to give up his quest for vengeance to help save her?

Eventually he ends up in Kodiak point using Vicky as bait to lure out the villain, but he finds that Vicky may be what he wants the most.

In this book we have artic fox Jan knowing that the Moose Boris is her true mate, however Jan is nothing if not persistent and when Boris goes after her when she and Tammy are in danger, Jan finally starts to find her way further into the mans mind.

Jan is a cunning fox and puts her many tricks into play when she finally gets Boris to notice her, when needed she changes tactics to throw him off guard so he never entirely sees what's coming or how she twists things into making him feel and need her.

I enjoyed this book and seeing some of the characters from the previous book.

The Book
Release Date: 15 September 2020

Max Troika never thought he’d be the alpha of his pack. That was his older brother’s fate. Assassinations have a way of ruining everything. Including who Max can take as a mate. It sure isn’t the cute and curvy librarian inspiring his dirtiest dream every night.

Galyna Shirvan has it bad for a guy she never thought a chubby librarian like her could ever win over. Now he’s got all the hots for her, too.

But there’s something strange about Max. No, it must be her imagination and all those paranormal romance novels the teens keep telling her to read.

Werewolves aren’t real.

Ahrooo....

REVIEW - Hooked (Never After #1) by Emily McEntire

The Book
Release Date: 5 September 2021

From international bestselling author Emily McIntire comes a dark and delicious fractured fairy tale reimagining of Peter Pan.

He wants revenge, but he wants her more…

James has always had one agenda: destroy his enemy, Peter Michaels. When Peter’s twenty-year-old daughter Wendy shows up in James’s bar, he sees his way in. Seduce the girl and use her for his revenge. It’s the perfect plan, until things in James’s organization begin to crumble. Suddenly, he has to find the traitor in his midst, and his plan for revenge gets murkier as James starts to see Wendy as more than just a pawn in his game.

Wendy has been cloistered away most of her life by her wealthy cold father, but a spontaneous night out with friends turns into an intense and addictive love affair with the dark and brooding James. As much as she knows James is dangerous, Wendy can’t seem to shake her desire for him. But as their relationship grows more heated and she learns more about the world he moves in, she finds herself unsure if she’s falling for the man known as James or the monster known as Hook.

*Hooked is a dark contemporary romance and the first complete standalone in the Never After Series: A collection of fractured fairy tales where the villains get the happy ever after. It is not a literal retelling and not fantasy. Hooked features mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences. Reader discretion is advised. For all content warnings, check the author's website.*

My Review    4 STARS
This is the first of a series and the first book that I have read/listened to by this author.

I liked the way that the story of Peter Pan has been imagined, and with Hook being the main character and that the villain ends up getting the girl.

Certainly an action packed story with a mafia role for Hook and our main lady being a strong lady who works with her grandfather on the boat lifting pots 7 days a week.

Our main guy certainly can act the bad guy, but he knows how to treat his woman and he certainly looks after his woman and to an extent her family when he decides that she is his to protect.

Certainly a series i will look to finish at some point.

Review - The Alpha's Breeder (The Breeder #1) by Tay T.

The Book
Release Date: 29 March 2019

Meet Eros Hall, an Alpha who isn't arrogant, domineering, or egocentric, and fall in love just as hard as our main character.

After being kidnapped by a group of vengeful werewolves, Emira finds herself in one hell of a situation.

First, she is believed to be a powerful Breeder capable of birthing an army of werewolf warriors in a world where supernatural beings are going extinct.

Second, her true soulmate is a powerful Alpha who is hell-bent on keeping her.

And third, to make matters worse, she only has six moon cycles to be "marked, mated, and pupped."

What does that even mean?

The Alpha's Breeder is a full-length werewolf romance novel featuring a possessive Alpha and spicy-hot steamy scenes. No cheating and a happy ever after guaranteed.

***Now professionally edited.***

My Review    2 STARS
This book has a good premise, however it does fall though in a few places.

Emira is a human working in a research facility that experiments on shifters and other creatures, however making her feel uneasy as she looks for answers as to what she is she has already handed in her notice.

With an attack on the facility however she never gets the chance. She and her colleagues are kidnapped and not treated well, only when she is near death do they stop and things go from bad to worse. Eventually she manages to escape, but she finds her way to another pack ground and she is now stuck with another alpha.

Lot happens in this book, but I struggled to really connect to it or the characters. I have book 2 to read, so i'm hoping that is a little better.

Review - Credence by Penelope Douglas

The Book
Release Date: 13 Jan 2020

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new standalone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot, winter nights ensue...

Tiernan de Haas doesn't care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she's grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents' fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She's always been alone, hasn't she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father's stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of eighteen. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them. And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her. The other one wants her. But he...

He's going to keep her.

*Credence is a full length, stand-alone romance suitable for readers 18+.

My Review    3 STARS
After so much hype i finally found time to read this book.  Not sure what all the hype is for though to be honest.

There would be a lot of triggers in this book for those not used to reading darker material.

Tiernan is a 17 years old girl who has just lost her parents.  Not that they were much of parents to her.  She is contacted by her late fathers step-brother, a man she has never met or knows and she decides that it would be good to get out of town and go visit him and his two sons.

Jake lives in Colorado on a mountain with Noah and Caleb.  Both of the both are so different from each other and each member of the family manages to bring out different emotions in her, making her wake up from her very quiet and shelters life with very little love.

Her Tiernan comes to know who she is, on her own voyage of discovery, especially once she hits 18.

With the relationship triangle we get a lot of angst, a family still managing to stick together and Tiernan finally figuring out what and who she wants.

It was a good read, i'm just not sure it was worth all the hype.

REVIEW - Draco (The King Series) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

The Book

From New York Times bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes Draco, a standalone dark romantic fantasy about a man fated to end the world and a woman fated to stop him.

DRACO

Then I woke up. Trapped in a grimy cellar, my body frail, and my love vanished.

Determined to break free, I succeed. But then the grim truth emerges: my entire reality is a fabrication, and I’ve been branded as the catalyst for the apocalypse. Why me?

I refuse to accept my fate, but how do I stop it when every move I make only brings me closer to becoming death’s henchman?

PIPER

Then things take a dark turn when he claims he’s seen me in his dreams and wants me to explain why. He seems crazy. Or is he?

Because strange stuff starts happening, including the unshakable feeling that I know this man from somewhere. I think…I think I’m meant to help him.

But why does every instinct scream to run? And why can’t I resist getting closer?

My Review     5 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This book is a continuation of the King series, but focuses many years later on Jeni and Kings son Draco.  He is the reincarnated spirit of Mia and Kings unborn son, but he has woken up from his sleep on to find that the life he thought he was living was a dream.

Now he finds that fate has other plans for him and that with a woman called Piper he has the fate of the world on his shoulders.  Is he the tipping point for the seers and Ten Club to take over the world, or does he finally destroy them.

This is possible the first book in a spin off series and it certainly has all the twists and turns that you would expect from this author.  You never exactly know when she will put a spanner in the works and turn the whole story upside down.

I'm really looking forward to see what Mimi comes up with next.
