REVIEW - Eye on the Ball (A Playing for Glory Romance, #1) by Francine Beaton

The Book
Release Date: 25 March 2018

What would prove to be stronger? Love, or loyalty?
It was World Cup Year, and top professional rugby player, Jakes du Plessis desperately wants to fulfil his childhood dream to play for the Springboks. However, to achieve his goal, he needs to adhere to the team’s strict vow of celibacy. ‘Focus, keep an eye on the ball – and stay away from women.’
What Jakes didn’t count on was a chance meeting with Angie Summers, an artist who shook him to his core and threw his well-laid plans into a tailspin. Not even his promise to his friends, teammates, over 9000 miles between them, and demons from his past could stop Jakes from falling for Angie.
Unfortunately, not everything is plain sailing, and Jakes finds that it takes a team to help him overcome obstacles to find his way to his own Happily Ever After

My Review  3 STARS
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

I struggled to get into this book and it took me a lot longer than i was expecting to finish.

My first problem was the constant change from first person point of view to third person point of view the other was that at times the book moved really slowly with very little happening and at other times it went so fast it felt like something was missing.

The plot itself was really good, however if you are not a rugby fan, some of the terminology may be lost on you.  Personally i felt it was a little heavy on the rugby instead of the actual romance itself.

I liked the characters and the families surrounding them, but as with most books the conflict between our main characters could have been sorted out if they had just talked properly with each other.  Both characters are afraid to let their feelings out and explain what holds them back, especially Jakes.

Once i got nearer to the end it read faster, but i certainly was a slow read for me.
