The Tycoon and the Texan - Phyliss Miranda

The Book
Release Date: 5 September 2013

Seven Days to Texas

With a name like Nick Dartmouth, and the fortune it comes with, it's hard not to have a reputation for getting everything you want. So when his former secretary steps onto his foundation's charity auction block, Nick has the perfect opportunity to woo the stunning beauty from Texas. But aggressive counterbids force him to make an extreme proposition. Except money itself doesn't guarantee a blissful ride off into the sunset, especially when being won goes against the willful nature of McCall Johnson. Intent on showing Nick they come from two very different--and incompatible--worlds, she's surprised by how well he can handle a horse. For a girl from Texas, that speaks volumes about a man's value. Maybe there's more to this playboy than she expected. . .

My Opinion  3 STARS
**Provided by Netgalley and Kensington Books for an honest review**

Nick Dartmouth is a rich man who works hard at his construction company and his mothers foundation, but he has a bit of an attitude and is always fighting with his mother.  He  doesn't do commitment and the only time he proposed to someone his mother ran her off.

McCall Johnson is a shy girl who is working to pay for her mothers tombstone and has paid for all the medical bills.  Both her father and mother are dead leaving her with just her grandma.

McCall is forced into helping the charity foundation by being one of the girls that they auctioneer off.  When Nick bids an obscene amount for her she is angry at him for embarrassing her as she does not feel that she deserves such a price.

Nick has paid three thousand pounds for a week of her time and makes sure that he gets his week with her trying to prove that they are not all that different from each other.

Forced into close proximity with each other sparks fly and they find that they do like each other and get on very well indeed.  He shows her what he likes and she shows him what she likes, and together they find things that work.

You can tell right from the beginning that his mother and Josie another employee have plotted to put these two together and the sparks do indeed say that they plan was a good idea.

My favourite part?  When she accidentally hooks Nick in the butt with a fishing hook!! :)

A light-hearted romance, perfect for a sunny day reading on the beach and a fairly quick read.

Sparks fly between them from the moment they meet, especially as Sam cannot give them the certificate they need to continue. Having worked in the business she knows how hard it is and that night works on some options to help them.

A chance meeting at the beach and a twisted ankle later Kevin and Sam spend the weekend together even though Kevin hasn't officially broken up with his girlfriend.

My Opinion  4 STARS
This was a very good novella that had me constantly saying 'just one more page' even noticing the late hour.

The relationship between the two felt honest and true and didn't fall flat. However the ending was a little rushed for my liking. However the story had a wonderful flow to it.

Kat had an inner strength and a joy for life that leaked into Erik's life and they both obsessed over each other from a chance meeting 13 months earlier.

It was nice to see both points of view as it would not have been the same from one point of view.

A lovely story.

But it's hard to focus on Beth, when an offbeat brunette from Virginia captures his imagination. After so much time alone, can Paul open himself up to a little Christmas magic? What's more, can he convince Carol to believe, as well?

My Opinion  2 STARS
Another quick holiday novella, but this one was even worse than the last one and just didn't feel believable.

It all felt far to rushed even if the description was great.

Not a series i will continue with.

My Opinion  3 STARS
A sweet holiday read good for the beach.

The novella does not take long to read and at the end feels a little unbelievable, and almost a bit rushed.

On the whole a feel good book.

A quick a fast paced romance that i finished in just a few hours.

Perhaps a little to fast paced, and a whole lot of why couldn't it have lasted longer. ;)

Definitely a naughty little read.

My Opinion  4 STARS
**Provided by Netgalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for an honest review**

Although this book moves at a fairly fast pace, I do struggle with how the relationship goes.  I mean it didn't sit exactly right, but I still very much enjoyed the story and finished it very quickly.

We are introduced to Brianna, a somewhat forgetful sex therapist, however her career really doesn't come into the novel.  We are also introduced to Tomas (Tom) who was a Bursar and was more list orientated and a little stiff.

Both get to know each other better on the long flight from Sydney where they find out that they are both headed for the same little Italian island.

He helps her out with a little problem and as you can guess they end up falling in love.

Not a bad little holiday read.

Taken by Storm (Raised by Wolves 3) - Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Book
Release Date: 22 May 2012
Bryn knows first-hand that being the alpha of a werewolf pack means making hard decisions, and that being human makes things a thousand times worse. She's prepared to give up her humanity, but the wolf who promised to Change her is waiting - though for what, Bryn doesn't know. Still human, she must take her place in the werewolf Senate, the precarious democracy that rules the North American packs. Standing side by side with werewolves who were ancient long before she was ever born is enough of a challenge, but Bryn soon learns that the Senate has been called to deal with a problem: the kind of problem that involves human bodies, a Rabid werewolf, and memories that Bryn, Chase, and the rest of their pack would rather forget. With bodies stacking up and political pressure closing in from all sides, Bryn and her pack are going to have to turn to old enemies and even older friends for help - especially when it starts to look like this time, the monster might be one of their own.

My Opinion  2.5 STARS

I don't know if its because I have left it a long time between reading the other two books and this one, but this one was really disappointing.

For one, Bryn as a character did not grow at all and just seemed to whine about what she had, what she had lost etc.. It got far too repetitive and boring.

We got to see a little more about Callum, but Chase and Devon and all the other characters really were just periphery characters.

Yes, there was lots of action in the book, and yes at times i was crying the writing was still good in that respect.  I just didn't get it.

And the ending?  Don't even get me started on that.  If this truly is the ending of the series then it leaves the whole series feeling unfinished in so many ways.  To many questions floating about.

I would still recommend this book if you have been reading the series, but it left me wanting to read another book to fill the space it left.  I certainly will not remember this book.

EXCERPT - The Deepest Craving by Gena Showalter

Release Date: 30 July 2013

His skin prickled, and maybe he moved. Maybe he spoke. Her gaze lifted to meet his. Her lips parted on a startled exhalation. Could she see the rawness of his need?

“Kane.” A breathy entreaty.
In that moment, the cry of the demon ceased to matter. The past faded, leaving only the present…the future, and the unstoppable tide of the pleasure to come. Every bone vibrated. He needed to get inside her. Here. Now.
           It would be agony.
           It would be ecstasy.
Tension coiled low in his gut, only to spring apart and jolt him into a stand. “Leave us,” he said, his voice a broken rasp.
No questions. No protests. The two seamstresses flittered from the room, shutting the door behind them.
The teapot shattered on the tray, dark liquid spilling everywhere, glass flying. Disaster’s newest attempt to deter him.
Tinker Bell didn’t seem to notice, was too busy watching him. “I-is something wrong?”

Silent, he stalked toward her. A predator with a purpose. He was done resisting. Done thinking about all the reasons why not. Today, he was taking something.
Perhaps sensing the dark, greedy urges driving him, she straightened with a snap. Her breathing quickened. “Kane,” she said.
“Tell me to stop.” He stood a mere heartbeat away, their gazes locked together, trapped. Nothing else would halt the madness.
           “I…I can’t.”

The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld 7) - Gena Showalter

The Book
Release Date: 9 March 2011

n this sexy new installment of Showalter's bestselling Lords of the Underworld series, the haunted Amun meets a woman who tempts him like no other...

Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty.

Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun's kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul...and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.

My Opinion  5 STARS
Ok so this is the story of Amun and Haidee.

We have Haidee (who has changed her name from Hadiee) and has been mentioned in previous books as the woman who was the bait that led the hunter in killing Baden, the keeper for the demon Distrust.

Haidee we learn lost her family and her husband the demons. She herself was targeted by a demon and died. However each time she dies she is reanimated and finds herself in a cave with hate as her main feeling for the first few years. She has actively hunted demons since her second life. Each reanimation hurts her much more than dying.

Amun is the keeper of Secrets and has to communicate with his friends via sign language as if he tries to speak the secrets he has taken spill out. When he finds Haidee next to him when he comes lucid from being in hell, he is shocked to find that she can here his thoughts if he puts them in words. Something know one has been able to do before.

However the attraction between them is strong even when his demon rifles through her memories and find out her secrets, and her true past (killer of Baden).

With a quest into hell for Amun to get rid of the demons he has consumed, and Haidee having agreed to go, they find love and acceptance.

A wonderful book.

The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld 6) - Gena Showalter

The Book
Release Date: 2 July 2010

In this riveting new installment of New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series, Gideon, keeper of the Demon of Lies, fights to uncover the truth….

Forced to his knees in agony whenever he speaks the truth, Gideon can recognize any lie—until he captures Scarlet, a demon-possessed immortal who claims to be his long-lost wife. He doesn’t remember the beautiful female, much less wedding — or bedding — her. But he wants to . . . almost as much as he wants her.

But Scarlet is keeper of Nightmares, too dangerous to roam free, and a future with her could mean ultimate ruin. Especially as Gideon’s enemies draw closer . . . and the truth threatens to destroy all he’s come to love . .

My Opinion  5 STARS
Gideon really is a blessedly funny, cute and well... eatable!!

In the latest instalment of the LOTU we had Gideon and Scarlett getting together with more information thrown into the pot from Strider and Amun as characters.

A lot of the other characters only got small mentions in this story and were much more cameo roles. Which was a good thing, as sometimes there are too many characters to keep up with.

We had been introduced to Scarlett in the previous book A Darkest Passion where Scarlett had told Gideon that she was his wife. BUT his demon lies could not tell him if she was telling the truth, or if she lied.

This book gripped you by the (insert what ever most appeals to you personally) and took you along with the ride. It certainly wasn't an awwww cute kinda book. It hard blood violence, misbehaving families along with vengeance and of course our main love story.

So we know from previous novels that Gideon cannot tell a truth without out feeling serious pain from his demon lies. We also find out how bloody funny he is too and how loyal he is to those he loves.

Scarlett is a goddess who has been shunned from her family almost from the time of her birth. Rhea has not been the best mother, Cronus as her step-father hates her and her aunt sides with her mother. Scarlett had a crush on Gideon from the beginning when she was growing up in captivity as a life-long prisoner.

Through this novel we find out the true falsities and truths that have been woven into Scarlets life and how Gideon helps her with the process. We also see Aeron, William and Amun travel through Hell to find and bring back Legion.

Another gripping book, that twists and turns the whole way through.

The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld 5) - Gena Showalter

The Book
Release Date: 21 May 2010

For weeks, the immortal warrior Aeron has sensed an invisible female presence. An angel-demon-assassin has been sent to kill him. Or has she? Olivia claims she fell from the heavens, giving up immortality because she couldn't bear to harm him. But trusting - and falling for - Olivia will endanger them all. So how has this mortal with the huge blue eyes already unleashed Aeron's darkest passion?

With an enemy hot on his trail and his faithful demon companion determined to remove Olivia from his life, Aeron is trapped between duty and consuming desire. Worse still, a new executioner has been sent to do the job Olivia wouldn't...

My Opinion  5 STARS
OMG... This is by far the best book of the series so far. It had me crying at points that even my husband asked if i was ok it was that good.

Ok first I should probably mention that you need to read The Darkest Angel (4.5 novella) before reading this book for a better understanding of both Olivia and Lysander.

This novel gives you a wonderful insight as to the being that it Aeron. A wonderfully complex character that does anything for his friends - his family, never really thinking of himself. Showing how soft hearted he really is.

Olivia is an Angel that has fallen as she had been watching over Aeron in fascination, but was unable to carry out her task in taking his life due to her conflicting feeling for him, even knowing that someone else would be given the job she could not do.

Having liked Legion in previous books, I admit to having not liking her after her total bitch came out showing her utter jealous side, even though it had come out somewhat before.

But the ending??? OMG. I am still reeling from that. I totally didn't see that happening. But hell, I LOVED it. I now have a little (ok big) Gena crush for giving me that ending.

I so cannot wait to start the next book in the series. Especially as she has already given us a taster of Gideon and Scarlett, and I totally loved that blue haired hunk of man.

My Opinion  4 STARS
Doh... Should have bought this before I bought the other two novella's in ebook format.

Loved Bianka's story of how she meets her Angel.  It was a brilliant story and it had me smiling, it was also nice to meet the Angel Olivia who has been spying on Aeron.

I also LOVED all the extras in the book and found Williams Q&A with the boys really funny as well as the interview of Gena by Kresley Cole.

The Darkest Whisper (Lords of the Underworld 4) - Gena Showalter

The Book
Release Date: 1 September 2009

New York Times bestselling sensation Gena Showalter returns with her long-awaited next installment of the Lords of the Underworld series…

He is the keeper of Doubt and his entire world’s about to be rocked.

Bound by the demon of doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern…until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more.

Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she’d fall for a kind human who wouldn’t rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora’s box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love…

My Opinion  5 STARS
Dammit. These books just keep on getting better and better and sucking me in further to their world. Seriously, I just can't put these books down.

Sabin, the Lord of Doubt goes to Egypt to try and find another of the relics needed to find Pandora's box and finds a room full of women in cells. All have been raped and are pregnant except for the one who catches his eye, Gwen.

Gwen is a harpy that has bern in her cell for over a year. She's hardly slept and not eaten. She has watched the hunters rape the women in front of her.

She finds herself pulled to Sabin and even finds that her harpy can be brought back by Sabin.

Back in Buda, the pair find themselves jealous of other past relationships and he even teaches her how to fight.

I love how the other characters have input into the story and how others may be paired up.

But do I have a favourite yet? I'm not telling?
