Blaze (Phoenix Rising #2) by Joan Swan

The Book
Release Date: 25 September 2012

With a man like him, every mission becomes personal. . .

Ever since FBI agent Keira O'Shay started tracking a young boy named Mateo, she's felt a connection even her empathic abilities can't explain. She needs to save Mateo from the cult leader holding him hostage. Nothing can interfere with that--not even the reappearance of Luke Ransom, the hot-as-hell fire captain she's regretted walking out on for three long years.

Losing Keira left Luke vulnerable--in every way. When they were together, the powers each possesses were mysteriously enhanced. But it's the sexy, surprising woman beneath the tough exterior that Luke's really missed. Even if she betrayed him utterly. And even if agreeing to help her uncover a government conspiracy means watching his life and his heart go up in flames again. . .

My Opinion  5 STARS
WOW…. This book is so much faster and completely more absorbing than the first book.  AND SO MUCH BETTER.

We have the very resilient Keira, a girl who has gone through so much shit and come though the other side still intact.  The only problem?  She doesn't see that the only thing holding her back from what she really wants is herself.  She blames genetics and other things for a reason as to why she can't be happy with Luke and or be a mother.  Her abilities gain from the fire is that she can hear 'voices', and when she and Luke get together both their abilities amp up to something better for the both of them.

Luke?  OMG.  A man to swoon after.  Loyal, determined and sexy as hell.  Not to mention a former fire fighter and now fire cop able to brandish weapons and he has some wicked abilities thanks to the fire they were all in.  He can 'speak' telepathically with only Keira, but he also has the ability to touch flames and be unharmed.  He also has an bullet proof skin when put back together with Keira.

When a mission goes nuts, Keira finds herself holding onto a little boy who only speaks Greek, who she also finds is her nephew which she also struggles to comes to term with, considering her brother was supposed to be dead for the last twenty odd years.

Luke and Keira also have their past to battle along with re-ignited feelings and they battle with each other with words and passion.  They also find that this is where their old friends come together to help them as possibly all their lives are in danger.

A must read.
